Book Reviews of The Perfect Lover (Cynster series)

Book Review: Cynster
Summary: 4 Stars

If you are reading the series, you need these entries. Laurens weaves her characters through their own stories and brings them back for her 'Bastion Club' and 'Black Cobra' series.

Book Review: Decent but not Great
Summary: 3 Stars

This is the 10th book in the Cynster series and is Simon Cynster's story. At a house party, Simon meets back up with his brother in law's sister Portia who has decided at age 24 to start looking for a husband. Simon's always irritated her because he is overprotective and watches over her all the time. He is a typical Cynster, a male tyrannt. Simon wonders why Portia is the only woman that ever really frustrated him because of her stubborn nature. When the two kiss, they discover that there is an overwhelming attraction that has been there all along. Because of her age, Portia decides to enter into an affair with Simon to learn more about passion before deciding who to marry. Simon believes once they've slept together they should marry. He has to take the entire book to convince her.

The other major storyline in this book is the murder of a young married woman who is pregnant by an unknown lover. This woman spends the first half of the book flirting with every man present but her husband. When she is found murdered, it is anyone's guess as to the murderer.

This book feels a little stale, like the author got bored half way through and compensated by adding a sex scene in every other chapter. However, that even lacks in intensity and the scenes actually end up repetitive and boring at times.

this is not a bad book but certainly is not one of the best I ever read. If you are interested in the Cynster series however, you will want to read it.

Book Review: Disapointed.
Summary: 4 Stars

I LOVE the Cynster series, but I was very disapointed with this book. I gave it 4 stars because it was pretty hot, but the plot was almost non-exsistant till over 200 pages in the book. I do not think it was better then On A Wild Night, or Wicked Dawn. I was really looking foreword to this book, and thought it was a huge let down. I will keep reading her books, but now I am wary. The end was much better then the first 2/3 of the book. The first 2/3 of the book is pretty much self-reflection on the characters parts, and while that is usually well and good, there is also usually a more interesting plot to go with it. Not so in this book. The plot was so flimsy, I could not find it till the end got going. Pretty sad. I am devoted to the Cynster series and read the books faithfully. The rest of the series is on my keeper shelf, I am still deciding weather or not to keep it, or get rid of it.

Book Review: Finally, an end to the Cynsters!
Summary: 1 Stars

I had one MAJOR problem with this book -- Simon and Portia have pages of discussion with themselves about what they are feeling and should they/will they connect with each other -- who cares! There's these 3 page long monologes with each one thinking about if it's gonna work, should they, could they, blah-blah-blah. I would get into the story and then, BAM, another long monolog ...frankly, they just needed to shut up.

I was also recommended ALL FOR LOVE...Lucifier's story. I just never got into it. If I hadn't paid $6 for it, I wouldn't have bother'd finishing it.

Book Review: Hardly perfect!
Summary: 1 Stars

I couldn't believe anyone can come up with such a book! There is no storyline at all. It's about sex, and sex and more sex! If you enjoy steamy sex, ok... then go ahead and spend your hard earn money on this book. I find the story utterly ridiculous and unrealistic. If Portia is intelligent, independent and is strong willed, then I find it highly unlikely for such a lady to allow a man (worse, a man which she has very low opinion on)to teach her sexual intimacy and the pleasures of it. I have wasted my money on this book but I console myself that at least her sexy scenes are not too bad. So, my advise?? Stay away from this book. I am sure there are other books which provide good plot with some romance.
