Book Reviews of The Petit Appetit Cookbook: Easy, Organic Recipes to Nurture Your Baby and ToddlerBook Review: Great recipes Summary: 4 StarsMy daughter is 10 months old and I am really enjoying this book. The no-egg pancakes are delicious! Its so nice to cook for all of us and know she is getting something healthy and fresh. I wish I had purchased this book when she was just starting solids but I think I will use it much more as she gets older. The book has some really unusual recipes that I never would think a baby would like, for example, curry and herb peas for a 9-12 month old! I don't even like curry but we will definitely try to give her a varied taste experience and see what she likes. So much better than bland jarred baby food.
Also, obviously you don't have to use organic ingredients although some of them may be hard to subsitute. I live in Germany and I don't even know where to begin to try to find brown rice sryup for a cookie recipe. I am looking forward to trying some of the more "adult" recipes as she gets older.
Book Review: Simple & yummy Summary: 5 StarsVery well written and easy to follow. It's great how the author shares some personal experiences. She breaks down the recipes by age, making it really simple for busy moms! Our 5 month old loves the sweet peas and pear puree!
I'd recommend this book for moms & dads who wish to make their own baby food!
Book Review: Great cookbook Summary: 5 StarsI love this book for my 11 month old daughter. I wish I would have ordered it when I first started her on solids. I really like the lay out by age group. There are also symbols by each recipe that represent special diet needs that your baby my need (such as dairy, eggs, wheat, vegan, or vegetarian) which I love because my daughter has a dairy intolerance. It makes finding recipes for her quick and easy.
Book Review: love it Summary: 5 Starsgreat recipes and great info on why we should make our own food (also gives things to look for when we have to buy jars).
Book Review: A review from a mom who doesn't enjoy cooking Summary: 5 StarsI do not like to cook, but I decided that I wanted to prepare my baby's food. It may be coincidence (I don't think so), but my daughter ate so much better when I gave her home made food. It's so much tastier (at least to me, so it must be for baby too) and it couldn't be easier. Some of the early recipes are pretty basic, but I love that the book gives you ideas of what to feed your baby, and why the food is good for your baby.
The beginning of the book does a great job of explaining the who, what, when, where, why and how to cook for your baby. She gives great ideas for storage and preparation, what foods to avoid, etc. It was really helpful to a novice cook (and first time parent) like me.
The book is divided into organized sections according to age/food stage - Beginners, Explorers, Independents, etc. I like how she notes the developmental cues of when your baby is ready for certain foods since you can't always go by age.
I purchased Blender Baby Food: Over 125 Recipes for Healthy Homemade Meals, but I like this book much much better. I also purchased Mommy Made and Daddy Too! (Revised): Home Cooking for a Healthy Baby & Toddler and it looks good, but I have not perused it in detail yet. I would definitely NOT buy Blender Baby Food again.
