In this anthology Meyerhoff provides an introduction on 'History and Philosophy' There then follow essays under the title 'The Heritage of Historicism'by Barraclough, Dilthey, Croce, Ortega and Collingwood. Under the heading 'Clio-Science or Muse?' there are essays by Pirenne, Toynbee, Carl Becker, Beard, Aron , Dewey, Lovejoy, Morton White, Ernest Nagel, W.H.Walsh. The third section 'History and Morality' has essays by Herbert Butterfeld, Sir Isiah Berlin, and Jacob Burckhardt. The concluding section, 'The Meaning of History' has essays by Bullock, Popper, Neibhur and Jaspers.
The essays are by many of the most important thinkers on the history of philosophy.
An outstanding introduction to the subject.
