Book Reviews of The Pillars of the Earth (Deluxe Edition) (Oprah's Book Club)Book Review: A fantastic journey through 14th century England Summary: 5 StarsThe greatest book that I have ever read, in that I lived and breathed the story, feeling a wide range of strong emotions as the text wove its rich tapestry. I, too, approach cathedrals with a different frame of mind and have re-read the book twice, each time feeling no less an emotional attachment to it than the time before.
Book Review: Gripping, absorbing, convincing Summary: 5 StarsIt really is hard to find fault with this book, and, believe me, I tried. The historical background is meticulously drawn, the characters are sympathetic (I even had a sneaking liking for the villain) and the story is gripping. A brutal book of a brutal time, but there aren't many reads better than this one. Five stars? Of course.
Book Review: The most stunning and enjoyable book i've ever read Summary: 5 StarsThis book is simply a masterpiece of of writing. If it was a car journey it would be a Rolls which was taking you on a ride through the Alps, gently taking you on the ups and down of the journey smoothly and with an excellent view all the way. Buy and read this book if you wish to taken on this vivid jouney which you will take again and again each time seeing a new view on the way
Book Review: What a book ! Summary: 5 StarsAs a non religious young history teacher, I try and avoid books about cathedrals BUT, having had "Pillars" recommended to me by my father (who has immaculate taste in literature) I have been converted. This is simply the best book I have ever read and should be read by anyone who enjoys an epic yarn, passionate descriptive writing and characters so real you feel you know them all. I love this book so much that I have insisted all my friends read it and, thus, am ordering my umpteenth copy as most of them have opted to keep the copy lent ! Read it, a great novel of our time.
Book Review: gripping stuff. 10 out of 10. it has the lot Summary: 5 Starsthe book starts off at a rapid pace and as you go through it you wonder what the outcome is as there are so many different combinations. it describes love and passion as well as the darker side of people in the 12th century. guaranteed, you'll love it. if not, you can shoot me! read it! one to remember, took me a couple of weeks to read although it has over 1000 pages. the plot blows you away, sometimes it involves sadness, love, compassion, hatred, jealousy and most of all mystery which says it all about that era.
