Book Reviews of The Pillars of the EarthBook Review: Another five stars... Summary: 5 StarsThis is one of the best historical novels I've read. It's impossible to put down: you'll want to read just another page, just another chapter... (I even sneaked at it at work).I had never read anything by Ken Follett, having the idea that he wrote mostly what I think of as "beach and pool best-sellers" but a friend recommended "Pillars" and I'm really glad he did! I'm even prepared to reconsider and read something else by Follett but I have a feeling this is probably his best work. I was so sad to let go of the characters that when I finished the book I had to look for more info on XII century England, cathedrals and Thomas Becket: all subjects that had never interested me before! Just buy the book: it's one of the best reads you can have!
Book Review: Pillars Of The Earth Summary: 5 StarsProbably one of the best books I have ever read, had me hooked from the first page and if anything was dissapointed because I'd come to the end! If you think this is a typical Ken Follet Thriller then be prepared for a plesant suprise. The synopsis does not do the book any justice. It's a well told, interesting and a must read book. It's one book I'll hang on to and hopefully manage to get other people to be on the look out for.
Book Review: Absolutely stunning story Summary: 5 StarsThis book was recommended to me by a friend. When he told me the subject matter, the life story of a stonemason in the 12th century, I admit that I found the prospect of reading it akin to visiting the dentist. Not to appear rude I took it home and it gathered dust on a shelf for weeks until, utterly bored and with nothing else to read I picked it up. I was hooked from the first page and have read it 5 times since. I have worn out 2 copies and am on my third!! This is a book which has to be read to be appreciated.
Book Review: Once read this book will stay with you for life! Summary: 5 StarsPretty well all of the reviews you will read for Pillars of The Earth will contain statements that:Prior to starting the book I didn't much fancy the subject matter. After page one I was hooked. It is the best book I have ever read. I have read it umpteen times since. I borrowed a copy, then had to buy one to keep. The reason that these are so often repeated is that they are all so true. The copy loaned to me was passed around several friends, and the reaction of all readers has been the same. I do not know anybody who has read this book and does not rate it as the best they have ever read. This book does not fit within any genre by means of which you would usually be drawn your next read, and it is only by recommendation that you are likely to read it. Please be guided by the reviews that you will find in abundance for this book and treat yourself to a stunning read.
Book Review: A 1080 pages masterpiece. Summary: 5 StarsSince I began reading this magnificent history y couldn't wait for the time to come back to hause, every day, to continue reading it. There is only one thing that I have to criticize to the author. He fell in numerous ocasions in huge technical descriptions of buildings and architechtural subjets. This enormous masterpiece wouldn't loss too much if those descriptions were shorter.
