Book Reviews of The Pocket ParentBook Review: Everything about parenting....always in-reach. Summary: 5 Stars
I have never seen a book quite like this...informative, sincere, and most of all, portable, USABLE information! Its like having the old "What to Expect when You're Expecting" which I just loved, but for my 3 year old! The best part of it all is that it can easily fit in my purse. I show it to my friends, they all want one! I wish this was available on a palm computer...bet it would be a great seller! Thanks, Gail and Caroline, you have a WINNER! Best of luck...Wendy Rider, Atlanta GA
Book Review: GREAT RESOURCE Summary: 5 Stars
All the positive things people say about this book are true. I love it - the information, the layout, the multiple viewpoints for the different parenting styles. I would recommend this to any parent of any style looking for a quick resource for common childhood problems.
Book Review: Good Bathroom Book! Summary: 4 Stars
Cute little book, although I can't say I've read it cover-to-cover (the only ones that I do read that way are novels). Some of the advice is not new or unique, but the authors sometimes offer a few alteratives, which is helpful since no one strategy works for every child. My one crtiticism is that the authors refer to themselves for most of the experiences they write about--it gets old reading the same names over & over--they should have made-up some names in order to cut down on the repetitiveness (and the impression that the book is about them rather than parenting tips). But my husband & I love to thumb through it during our time in "the office."
Book Review: Good Ideas, But not reality, Summary: 3 Stars
I have purchased this book because of the good rating this book has; But I think that the author may be writing based on a fantasy how he would like a two year old child to grow up.
The Book is base on two principles: one give your child what ever they want, the second one is if it doesn't work make a family meeting to talk about it.
Well I have a 2 & 3 year old: Children this age cannot be reasoned with and they do not understand the concept of a meeting. They do not follow a book of rules. Also it is irresponsible to give your child what ever they want, this is not a way of disciplining a child.
Except for the philosophy of the writer, I find the book hard & boring to read; It may be a good only as a reference book, to read one article at a time. Every piece of advise comes with some story that just does makes the book thicker but is not any importance or interesting to read.
The only part of the book that I did like is the "sanity savers"; these are short lines with advise how to deal directly with the problems as they happen.
Book Review: Good book if you just need some quick advice... Summary: 5 Stars
This is a good book if you just need some quick advice. It reads easy, and it's simple to find the section you need.
