I am new to the whole Christian literature, Christian self-help thing. (I'm writing this review under my husband's name, so NO I'M NOT A MAN!) :) I've tried doing devotionals before and I just couldn't get into them, but I picked this book up thinking that I need to work on my non-existent prayer life. WOW! This book is awesome. Stormie writes like she's right beside you talking to you, and I never feel like I'm being preached at or told what to do. She's honest about her own marital problems, failings, her husband's faults, and she lets you know that you are not alone.
Stormie is brutally honest and lets the reader know that a big key to changing your husband into the man you want him to be---is to change YOURSELF into the wife God wants you to be. She shows you how to pray for your husband, but she also shows you how to admit your own blame in the marriage. It's harsh...sometimes I put the book down in disgust and walked away because I didn't want to hear it. But you know what? I needed to hear it. When I get over my anger and go back to the book, my pen and highlighters are out and ready, and I can find bits of wisdom in each and ever paragraph.
I absolutely love the prayers at the end of each chapter as really good examples. While I'm not one to "read" a pre-made prayer and pass it off as my own, I do read through these prayers and make notes on what I want to pray about. Then I'm able to sit down with my notes and really pray to God and remember everything I needed to ask and say. The Bible verses are also inspiring and are located right at the end of the chapters....perfect to flip through and find when you need them.
Some of the negative reviews on here say not to buy it unless your marriage is in trouble. Not true! Who doesn't want to improve their marriage??? This book is valuable for ANY wife who is wants to be a better wife, a better mother, and a better Christian, regardless of whether you are thinking of getting a divorce or blissfully happy. Some other reviews say Stormie looks at prayer as "magic" or a formula to be followed for assured happiness. I don't believe those are her intentions at all. She's trying to show HOW to pray and she's showing examples of blessings in her own life.
I'm looking forward to reading Stormie's other books, and I can't wait to start The Power of a Praying Woman.

This book is a real blessing, I have already gifted it to a few of my friends! It has really enhanced my prayer time, by reminding me of the many different ways I can pray for the one I love. It reminds you that so much more can be accomplished when we ask for the Lord's help..when we just "Shut Up and Pray". What a true blessing not only for women, but for their husbands who will now receive the kind of prayer they deserve and need on a daily basis!Book Review: good investment for your marriage

this book is so well written and very inspiring. the author speaks very candidly about her own trials in her marriage and makes each topic very relateable. i especially liked the sample prayers at the end of each chapter, along with the scripture. i bought the power of a praying husband for mine and have already used both books as part of a wedding present. i've also recommended it to quite a few other wives.
