Book Reviews of The Pregnancy Book: Month-by-Month, Everything You Need to Know From America's Baby ExpertsBook Review: Excellent, best pregnancy book I've read Summary: 5 StarsThis book was great. It metioned all the feelings and thoughts as I was having them. It even answered the questions that were running through my mind that I thought were stupid. It made me feel normal.
Book Review: Excellent book for anyone who is expecting Summary: 5 StarsI have read many pregnancy books but would emphatically say that The Pregnancy Book is truly THE PREGNANCY BOOK! It is practical, easy to read, thorough and contains excellent information. The explanations of the changes a woman undergoes during pregnancy gave me a very clear idea of what to expect and why. I enjoyed the descriptions of the developing fetus and I found the quotes from real-life women to be thought provoking and very true-to-life. The description of the labor and delivery process was the most accurate of any book I have read to this point. I was able to use some of the tips during my own delivery and have no doubt they helped to make it go more smoothly. The Pregnancy Book is an excellent resource and I highly recommend it to anyone who is expecting - whether it's the first time or the fourth. For a great book for couples to read, try We're Pregnant!, a down-to-earth look at the pregnancy experience from the perspective of both the expectant mother and the expectant father.
Book Review: Get this book instead of "What to Expect..." Summary: 5 StarsThis book was a fabulous resource. I got it after reading "What to Expect When You Are Expecting" and being very disappointed with the information given there. The Searses have lots of good information about what is actually happening to your body during pregnancy and why it happens. They spend much less time focusing on things that can go wrong in a very small percentage of pregnancies and instead give lots of good general information. This book prompted lots of good question and answer sessions with my doctor. I would recommend this book to any parent to be who wants to know what is going on physically and emotionally during pregnancy. This book also has some great tips on treating illness without drugs during pregnancy.
Book Review: A good basic practical book on pregnancy Summary: 4 StarsI haven't read the book cover-to-cover yet. I am in my sixth month and I have mostly read up until where I am now. The book gets better and more useful with time, since I have experienced things like leg cramps and a back ache. The advice the authors have given to avoid these annoying pains have really worked. I haven't given it 5 stars since a lot of the routines about where to go for your birth aren't relevant for me, because I am Swedish and live in Sweden. We also have different laws on maternity leave and when to tell your employer that you're pregnant etc. These parts of the book are not so useful for non-Americans. I also wish there had been some more information on yoga and fear of delivery and how to get prepared for delivery if you are scared. Another thing that the book lacks (and so do most pregnancy books) is an adequate section on bleeding. I was trying to be supportive to a friend that bled during the first five months. Her baby is fine and so is she, but she had to go to the hospital in order to find out that in MOST cases, bleeding is normal. Quite a large percentage of women bleed, without it having to mean signs of a miscarriage. Of course, it is important to have it checked out by a doctor, but it could be comforting to know that many other women have gone through it and that it everything could be fine. In general, me and my pregnant friends agree about that there are a lot of things that pregnancy books just don't cover.
Book Review: Good information in a fun to read format Summary: 4 StarsI enjoyed having this book around when I was pregnant. I liked knowing what was going on in my body and well as in my baby. They answered all concerns you may have. I didn't however like the section on labor, I felt they were very narrow in what they considered an "acceptable" birth. I had an epidural with my son and do not feel like a failure, although they would lead you to believe you are. Other than that, I thought the book was great. And I really love the books they wrote for after the baby is born!
