The Presence Process - Author, Michael Brown
"The Presence process is more than a book: it is "an experience of present moment awareness" being delivered in the form of a book". (p19) this is how the Presence Process describes itself.
From the outset and throughout, the fundamental emphasis of the book is "the importance of choosing to re-connect with the power of your Inner Presence". (p1)
This involves a natural, practical, methodical procedure to help us move through "the inner debris of the past" (p18) to "release and integrate the emotional blocks that unconsciously distract us from the present moment of our life experience" (P8).
The book is a meticulously well integrated and precisely described experiential process based on the structure of 1. Consciously connected breathing sessions 2. Presence Activating Statements 3. Reading materials/perceptual tools to access and resolve our unintegrated emotional experiences. It is an invitation to take responsibility for our own emotional growth. Only through this can we come to the threshold of the "Vibrational", (Michael Brown's preferred term for the Spiritual) - "The sacred silence and stillness out of which all life flows" (p22)
I am mid-way through my second application of this extraordinary 11 week experiential process. To me it has given the possibility of finally undertaking the emotional work which is a necessary preliminary to making use of A Course in Miracles. (I regard it as paving the way to re-connection in the same way as ACIM talks about "removing the blocks to the awareness of love's presence"). (Intro). Indeed, I have found the Presence Process to be the most profound spiritually orientated depth psychology I have encountered beyond ACIM).
The experiential method laid out in the Presence Process is an "undoing practice", an inwardly orientated journey away from "doing" so that the basis of all our action in the present can be more clearly infused with the power of our Inner Presence.
There are times when the way is by no means easy. "We will have experiences in which we feel as if we do not know where we are going or in which we do not know what is happening to us". (p22) I am in one such period at the moment. However, my intention in undertaking this challenging process is different and my attention is being gradually re-directed. Unlike previous experiences of discomfort, this experience feels purposeful, transformative and real.
Michael Brown created the Presence process as "an accessible tool for awakening for everyone" (p7). It will not be for everyone to choose it. But for myself, who has, I am grateful for this phenomenal distillation of the experiences of thousands of individuals who have undertaken the Presence Process journey and are part of a "growing community on this planet that is living from present moment awareness" (p13) And I take comfort from the fact that "gratitude is the one single marker that we can depend on as an indicator of how present we are in our life experience". (p10)
