Book Reviews of The PromiseBook Review: The Promise (by Danielle Steel) Summary: 5 Stars
This is a love story with a cruel twist of fate and how true love can conquer all. A great story...one of the lesser known Danielle Steel books since it was one of her earlier works. Great book!
Book Review: The Promise Pays Off Summary: 5 Stars
Most of Danielle Steel's books are schlocky and clumsily written. However, I read them anyway. I read this book over 25 years ago and loved it. It was my first ever romance novel, and I read it from cover to cover in one night. Since then, I've read hundreds of romances, and I can accuse Steel of creating my romance addiction. Her earlier longer length books are much better than the novellas she dashes off now. Along with The Promise, I recommend Palomino, Thurston House, The Ring, and Family Album. Other romance writers that I think are ten times better are: Amanda Quick (AKA Jayne Ann Krentz), Susan Elizabeth Phillips, LaVyrle Spencer, Katherine Sutcliffe, Sandra Brown, Laura Kinsale, Jill Marie Landis, Judith McNaught, Fern Michaels, etc.
Book Review: The Promise was written AFTER the movie Summary: 3 Stars
While this is a decent book (yes, it does have plot holes you can drive a truck through), it IS NOT Danielle Steel's original work.
The Promise was a screenplay written by Garry Michael White. Danielle Steel was hired to write the movie novelization based on the movie's script.
Not sure if later book editions show this, but early book editions clearly state that it is a novelization based upon the screenplay by Garry Michael White right on the front cover.
Book Review: This book is incredible!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
The Promise brings hope into the lives of the brokenhearted. When I finished the last page, I just sat there with my jaw to the floor. What a great peice of work. Hats off the Danielle Steel. Very recommended.
Book Review: Unrealistic Summary: 1 Stars
I thought this book was romantic but incredibly unrealistic. SPOILER ALERT: It seems rather absurd that Michael never finds out that Nancy is alive. Did he never read a newspaper article about the crash? Did his best man ever read the newspaper report? Did he never try to find her grave? The author never tells us what the world at large thinks happened. Etiher it is generally thought that she died (in which case the mother would have had to get the hospital to fake a death certificate, etc, and produce a body to bury) or else the rest of the world thinks she's alive (which, again, seems unrealistic that Michael wouldn't find out or one one of his friends.)
