Book Review: A BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN BOOK

"The Pull of the Moon" is one of Berg's most beautifully written books. It is a book not primarily about adventure but about self-discovery and acceptance of self. Nan decides to take a journey without her husband, Martin, with no particular destination in mind. It is not that Nan and Martin do not love each other, for they love each other dearly. They have fallen into a rut many marriages do where Nan feels taken for granted, and they just seem to be adrift on a sea flowing in and out with the tide. She wonders if her feelings and dreams are truly important to Martin. Along her journey, Nan meets some very interesting people, some young, some old, but each one helps Nan to understand who she really is and what she wants for her remaining years.
Although the book is not written for any particular age group, I believe an older mature woman would appreciate and understand Nan's journey more than a young woman. When one is young, old age seems as far away as the moon and as inconceivable as a fairy tale. "The Pull of the Moon" is a real prize, a lesson in self-discovery and acceptance; a reminder that ageing is all part of life's journey. The book is worth five stars plus!
