Book Review: excellent portrayal of the two sisters desire to reign
Summary: 5 Stars
Wonderful depiction of early England and the scheming and machinations of the courtiers who surround the crown. Mary is admirable but sad, Elizabeth is, as usual, slyly magnificent. Dudley has his own magnetic presence to add to the blend of trauma, disaster, opportunity, tragedy and glory. Such emphasis on religion makes one realize how lucky we are to live today without persecution, and with the option to choose freely.
The fool plays a excellent part here, as she travels between the two royal sisters, admiring each, unable to be truly loyal to either, afraid for her own safety.
I only wish the book had not ended where it did... Perhaps another one will be written to take us through the rest of the Virgin Queen's fascinating reign and relationships.
