Book Review: Don't say what you wouldn't do for love, review from Sisterhood Book Club
Summary: 4 Stars

James Patterson & Michael Ledwidge came up with the right title for this great book that is entitled The Quickie. They put a twist into the read of Lauren's life as a great wife and detective that one day turns her own life inside out...One Quickie turns into a deadly one that Lauren's husband is left holding the bag and she does everything in her power to save him. The power that Lauren has to save her husband becomes powerless because of the desires, secrets and the consequence that's slowly drowns her.

As I was reading this book the characters came to life and invited me into their world that made me question a lot of things but one thing stood out more than others. "Can love or should I say marriage bring you to a point that you love someone more then you love yourself?" love comes in all forms and fashion but it's a whole different ball game when it has to do with your husband or wife killing someone. "Would you cover up his or her wrongness because you work for the law?" Love is a powerful tool that you never under estimate or say what you will not do in a situation that Lauren finds herself in. Although the book I knew it was wrong what she was doing but I wouldn't want to lose my husband either.

Pick up this book when you get a chance and adventure into the life of Lauren's that will make you go hmmm...

Book Review: Dreadful
Summary: 1 Stars

Why, oh why is James Patterson a bestselling author? I seriously don't get it. I stopped reading his books several years ago because I found that they just seemed to be getting worse and worse. Then last summer my mom-in-law gave me this book as a gift. It languished on my shelf until now and frankly I wasn't missing anything.

The plot, so to speak, involves Lauren Stillwell, a police officer who finds out her husband is cheating on her. So instead of confronting him she decides to have a `quickie' with a co-worker. While looking out the window of the room where she has her assignation Lauren sees something so shocking her life is turned upside down, and she can't tell anyone, because that would reveal her affair.

The plot was dumb, the characters cardboard cut-outs that I cared not one whit for, the dialogue trite, when not laughable, the writing pedestrian and the ending ridiculous.

Awful is too nice a word to use when describing this book.

Book Review: Great book
Summary: 5 Stars

The book was in great condition and the book was interesting and kept my attention. The book was referred to me by my sister and it was certainly fun reading. Thanks, Heather

Book Review: Hang it up Jim!
Summary: 2 Stars

Jim, it's time you hang it up and enjoy your retirement. It's been years (and years) since you've written an entertaining novel. I just got a Kindle and I was eager to read something entertaining. I thought I would give Mr. Patterson another try. I was disappointed. I thought the story was predictable. It lacked enthusiasm. I could go on and on. Potential customers ... don't waste your time.

Book Review: Has Our Society Become Desensitized to Violence?
Summary: 2 Stars

***** SPOILER ALERT *****

There was a root problem with this novel that I was never able to overcome.

How could Lauren witness her husband violently beating (and apparently ultimately killing) a man without becoming remotely concerned about his character? Wasn't she concerned about the safety of herself and her unborn child knowing what Paul was capable of? Her only concern was how to cover up his crime???

It should have been royally troubling to her to realize what violence her husband possessed, yet somehow it sailed over her head. There are extreme situations where violence gets repaid with violence, but that was not what was depicted here.

Worse yet, Lauren kept claiming that Paul had viciously beaten Scott "for her". Lauren had engaged in a consensual act with Scott. Paul was not protecting Lauren by any stretch of the imagination, so how could she keep justifying his behavior? How could his violent propensity not be totally troubling to her?

Women with low self-esteem are notorious for making all kinds of excuses for men. It is a waving red flag when women read "noble" motivations into negative and disturbing behavior on the part of men, both for their own sake and for the sake of their children.

I believe that Paul had a chip missing in that he could behave so violently and viciously toward others. Lauren had her own chip missing in terms of not only failing to see the problem but, worse yet, to interpret it as somehow being a tribute to her relationship with him.

Is our society becoming so desensitized to the violence depicted by the media that this constituted a reasonable response to a vicious beating? And have male-female relationships become so troubled that Lauren did not run for her life and the life of her unborn child before Paul erupted again?

I could go on and on, but I would like to point out one other thing. This novel depicted caffeine and alcohol as being plausible beverage choices for a pregnant woman. I am willing to cut Patterson some slack on this on account of his being a man. Yet I certainly hope his female readers are savvy enough to realize the hazards these substances can present to an unborn child.

Let's please not buy everything the media sells us as being acceptable or advisable.
