Book Reviews of The Raven PrinceBook Review: Beautifully written characters Summary: 5 Stars
This is a truly enjoyable historical romance. This was the first book I read by this author and will now continue to seek out all her work in the future. I loved the very unconventional characters of this story; of the entire series actually. The hero of the story is not jaw dropping gorgeous like most hero's in a romance. He has his flaws and like the heroine the reader gets to understand his flaws and loves him anyway. The heroine is refreshing as well and the plot at times is just simply steamy. With it's mixture of well written and likable characters, the unconventional characteristics and antics of the hero and heroine; this is simply one of the best historical romances I have read. I would highly recommend this book and the rest in the series to anyone. I simply loved this book. I truly love anything that Lisa Kleypas has written and was sadden after reading everything of hers I could get my hands on, I needed to find a new author that could compare to her style and fill my time till her next books come out. If you love Lisa Kleypas or Julia Quinn you will love this author. I only wish she had more books out because I fear I will devour everything she has written in no time.
Book Review: Best debut novel in 2006 Summary: 5 Stars
The widowed Anna Wren is in desperate need of money, so she takes an unusual step and applies for the secretary job in the household of Edward de Raaf, the Earl of Swartingham. She has three major problems with the job. First no one has ever heard of a female secretary, secondly her employer has a fierce temper, but the biggest problem of all is that she is falling in love with him. Unfortunately Edward has problems due to a past betrayal, a huge problem with the concept of love and relationships. Will they find a way to be together?
The Raven Prince is a fantastic and unusual book. The story captivated this reviewer from the beginning and she was really sad when she reached the end.
Ms. Hoyt created a terrific cast of characters for this novel. Each of the characters plays an important part in making this book so unique.
Anna Wren is a very strong and independent heroine, who doesn't care much about public opinion. She stands up for her own opinion, something that is especially important in the employment of the Earl. When she makes up her mind, there is nothing that will stop her; she will even go disguised into a brothel to be with the man she loves.
Edward de Raaf is a tortured/wounded hero par excellence. He doesn't believe that any women will ever really love him, because of his pox scars, but that was before he met Anna. She just has to make him believe that he is worthy to be with her.
Altogether she will turn his whole life upside down.
This reviewer especially liked that The Raven Prince is set in the Georgian times, because there are too few books set in this time period and it makes the book even more special.
The Raven Prince is a very good debut novel and you will definitely want to keep an eye open for more books by Ms. Hoyt. Her next book, The Leopard Prince will be released in April 2007.

Book Review: Beware a book with too many glowing reviews! Summary: 2 Stars
I can only assume it's a marketing ploy, but this book certainly doesn't warrant the large number of excellent reviews! I bought based on those previous reviews, but was sadly disappointed. It was an ok book, but lacked the heart and excellent writing of a Belogh or Carlyle book.
The main characters did things not in keeping with the time and every plot development was painfully obvious. There was no real tension between the main characters. The author told us there was, but didn't show it.
I have no interest whatsoever in reading the rest of the serious. If you still want to read it, buy it used!
Book Review: Delicious love scenes! Summary: 4 Stars
This author was recommended to me recently and this book was my first read. It is a quick and captivating historical romance about two unlikely people who seem destined to fall in love. There are HOT, steamy, love scenes, but the background story and tension are a little weaker. I will continue reading this author.
Book Review: Deserving of the Hype Summary: 5 Stars
This novel truly stands apart from the vast majority of the historical romances out this year. I can't believe this is the author's first book! It's so polished, orginal, and confidently written that I never would have guessed this is Hoyt's debut. I think she's destined to be a big star in the romance writers' world.
This book features two multi-faceted, fascinating protagonists, an unpredictable, risky, yet ultimately very successful plot, and some very steamy love scenes. The story holds together remarkably well, and I always felt that I could trust the author to keep things interesting without resorting to cliches, unbelievable twists, or sex scenes that exist solely to mask the fact that the writer has run out of plot. In this novel, every moment has a purpose and a point and the excellent love scenes move the story towards surprising and exciting developments.
The supporting characters are also expertly drawn-- I'm holding out hope that Coral will get her own story someday.
If you love historical romance, then take a chance on this book. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
