Book Reviews of The Redwall Cookbook (Redwall Companion Books)

Book Review: Disappointed
Summary: 2 Stars

I am a dedicated Redwall reader, and as such I was incredibly disappointed by this book. The Redwall series is brimming with names for dishes and drinks, yet this book completely failed in giving authentic recipes. There were three recipes in the entire cookbook that I knew from his 14 or so novels: deeper'n'ever turnip'n'tater'n'beetroot pie, october ale, and shrimp hotroot soup (and strawberry fiz, I must admit). The rest of the recipes were fakes taking advantage of the Redwall namesake. They were simply recipes with animal names thrown in them, such as nunnymolers, or churchmouse pie. Where are all of the recipes from foods they actually ate in the books? Scones, pies, PASTRIES, salads, cheese even, absolutely nothing.
If you are expecting to learn recipes of Redwall dishes you have always wondered how to make, you will be incredibly disappointed.
If you are looking for an introductory cookbook to your niece or child, this is a great choice. Don't expect to find anything authentic, however.

Book Review: Very Good Cookbook
Summary: 5 Stars

A great Redwall cookbook for beginning chefs. There are plenty of good recipes nestled between poems and stories with excellent illustrations. This is a good gift for any young Redwall fan with a knack for cooking and everyone else gets a little taste of a Redwall feast.

Book Review: Grandson's Cookbook
Summary: 5 Stars

My Grandson does a lot of the cooking for his family of 11. He mentioned this cookbook as a possible birthday present.
My wife and I bought it for his 13th birthday and he is really enjoying it. And so is the rest of his family - eating eating eating.
Great chef starter!

Book Review: cooking is fun with your kids

Book Review: A Pleasant Surprise!
Summary: 5 Stars

I reluctantly bought this for a daughter who loves Redwall books and cooking. The first pleasant surprise came upon opening the book and seeing how visually pleasing it is. It's lovely! The next came when our daughter starting working her way through the book, with the goal of making each recipe. She's about half-way through and each one thus far has been delicious; something our whole family enjoyed. Most cookbooks yield a handful of recipes that are keepers but The Redwall Cookbook is amazingly, consistently good. This is a purchase I'm glad I made.
