Book Review: "Not as good as Desperation"? HAH!

I think it's hilarious that so many of these reviews say this isn't as good as Desperation. I read Desperation first and then began reading The Regulators with no clue that it was supposed to be a follow-up (of sorts, because there's no real connection other than same characters, same Tak). I was pleasantly surprised to find that I liked this story tons more than Desperation, but probably only because I read Desperation first. I knew the back stories of the characters that stayed flat in this one already, and got to learn about the other ones that were flat in Desperation. Desperation is more of a quest-leading-to-a-showdown kind of book, whereas Regulators keeps you on your toes all the time with the action of it all. As somebody else said, it's also much less preachy than Desperation and is much more fun to read because of that. It still has a very profound ending; I wish it could have been different, but I knew that this was a Stephen King book with no happy ending. What happened in the end is what would've happened in the real world where human atrocity and the hatred we hold for those different from us overcomes logic and understanding.
Give this one a read. This is definitely near the top of my list of King books I've loved (and I've read more than 50 of his stories now).
