Book Reviews of The Rivan Codex: Ancient Texts of THE BELGARIAD and THE MALLOREONBook Review: for what it was, it was good Summary: 3 StarsThis isn't a novel. If you were expecting that, or if you're disappointed that it didn't have new characters, new worlds, etc., then wait for them to make something new. This is a collection of the background material used to create the 12-book series. And his little introductions, etc. could come across as arrogant; I think he was trying to approach the subject of his own writing with a sense of humor. There's no way not to sound self-centered while doing that, unless you go for the martyr approach, so I'll let him have fun with it. For the type of collection the Rivan Codex was, I think it was well put together and illustrates just what it took for this series to be created. However, I will not deny that even for a big fantasy reader and an occasional David/Leigh Eddings fan, it got pretty damn dull. And I must admit that it doesn't do a whole lot in the way of providing insight for writing novels, which is unfortunately the approach they took. Hence my 3 stars.
Book Review: FLASH: Jerk Milks His Fans Summary: 1 StarsClue Mr. Eddings: These collections are meant to be published after you are DEAD...but milking your loyal fans for this trash seemed better for your wallet, eh?Eddings wrote a semi-okay fantasy series that many love - good for him. Like Terry Brooks, he latched onto a genre with a somewhat small but incredibly loyal following and milked it for all it was worth. He was successful...and it all went to his head. Go to your local library and read this introduction. And then defecate on this lousy excuse to chop down trees. The sheer arrogance of this man is astounding, as is the superior tone that runs throughout most of this. Garbage through and through, only Eddings-stroking dimwits need apply.
Book Review: Good in some places, boring in others. Summary: 3 StarsI have read all of David and Leigh Eddings books and loved every one. This book answered a lot of my questions and clarified certain things for me but I was rather shocked at David Eddings attitude in the introduction. It didn't seem right to me that such a good series was writen by such an arrogant and presumptuous man. He should be incouraging budding new authors not ignoring them!!!
Book Review: Not a new story, but very interesting Summary: 4 StarsI really enjoyed this book; it was very informative and all that material (especially the Holy Books and histories) really made some things clear to me that didn't really come out in the Belgariad and the Mallorean. However, this is obviously NOT a story. It wasn't intended as a story, just a sort of compilation of all of the things that put the stories together. I'd only recommend this to people who have at least read the Belgariad in it's entirety, if not the Mallorean as well. But then, hey, who's picked up the Edding's series and put it down before the end?
Book Review: Best auther today Summary: 5 StarsI really liked the father daughter relationship between Belgarath and Polgara. It has been awhile since I read these books, and I'm excited about reading all of David Eddings books.
