Book Reviews of The Satanic BibleBook Review: A fasinating voyage of self-discovery... Summary: 5 Stars
...culminated in this book. It began when the myths of Satanism were shattered by a TV special that explained what it really was. From that day on, I researched Satanism intently, soon discovering that many of the beliefs and principles involved in Satanism were very reflective in me. This book was the final step in the path. An excellently crafted work that I have read through once and plan to read again and again. Anton LaVey is a brilliant man, and this writing only proves it further. I am a Satanist and proud to refer to myself as one. To anyone, Satanist or not, this is a very good read. It's well written and definately makes one think.
Book Review: A fun bit of common sense followed by a lot of yak dung Summary: 2 Stars
I will admit that I have not read the entire thing. ONLY BECAUSE I CAN'T. The first half consists of the whole satanist philosophy, but then Anton LaVey proceeds to contradict himself by adding an extensive section on rituals. This is the part I could not swallow. (but hey! I tried to open the gates of hell on my TV screen, and when I turned it on FULL HOUSE was on, so it might not be all bunk after all!) Overall: VERY interesting the first 100 pages, But just a silly coffee table or toiletside book after that.
Book Review: A genious piece of work Summary: 5 Stars
Finally some one dares to explain the truth about satanism and satanic rituals. I for one applaud the work of Mr. Lavey. A MUST READ for any satanist or for some one who is open-minded and wants to understand modern and traditional satanism.
Book Review: A good dose of reality. Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a former member of the Church. However, I did not leavethe Church because I felt the philosophies espoused by Anton Laveywere incorrect. The Satanic Bible offers a good dose of reality to anyone willing to handle it. The REAL reason I left the Church is because I felt, deep down, that this is something LaVey intended of all followers -- that eventually, they'd come to realize that 'group-think' runs counter to the 'individuality' espoused by the philosophy. The Satanic Bible doesn't attempt to edit out the embarassments (like the Bible editing out the Gospel of Thomas, or neglecting to mention how Christian zealots hunted down and 'crucified' a man named Mani who had the audacity to suggest that God and Satan were 'equal' in power and stature). I enjoyed The Satanic Bible when I first read it and have enjoyed rereading it from that time forward. A 'very' good book, all things considered.
Book Review: A good primer to FREE YOUR MIND... Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this book forever. LaVey's philosophy, in early adulthood, gave me the foundation for Ayn Rand's 'Objectivism' (which I wouldn't discover until my mid-twenties), and really helped free my mind. Very entertaining essays. And, to this day, I've never sat down and fully read the section on 'Satanic magic', because I thought it was too silly.
