Book Reviews of The Saturday WifeBook Review: It's Hilliarous Summary: 5 Stars
I just finished Saturday Wife and thought it was quite a hilarious satire. I hope Woodmere and Cedarhurst ladies have a sense of humor! : )lol
PS. I was kind of upset Naomi left out Hillcrest Queens(my home). I would loved it. Also, some of this is so true-its scary.
Book Review: Naomi's done it again! Summary: 5 Stars
The heralding of a new Naomi Ragen novel is always cause for celebration, and this latest offering from Ms. Ragen does not disappoint. Though satire is not something we're used to from Naomi she captures aspects of modern Orthodox life in America in a terrific "tongue in cheek" way, and also subtlely imparts lessons and wisdom. A working knowledge of Judaism in general, and modern Orthodoxy in particular, may be helpful, but all in all, this is a great read that I for one, read in one sitting. My advice to Sabbath observers - buy it now, but save it for Shabbos!
Way to go, Naomi! Thanks again!
Book Review: Not all Othodox Jewish women are created equal Summary: 3 Stars
Turned the view of the pious Orthodox Jewish woman as a "woman of valor" completely on its head! Didn't like this "airhead" character very much but couldn't stop reading! Wondered what kind of mayhem she would get into next!
Book Review: Not an accurate reflection of orthodox judaism Summary: 2 Stars
This is a good fictional read but it is highly unreflective of real-life orthodox life. The events in this book would hardly ever happen and the book itself gives the wrong picture of what is a much more beautiful way of life where women aren't treated the way they are reflected in this book.
Book Review: Not the Naomi Regan I'm used to reading. Summary: 3 Stars
I'm disappointed with nearly the entire story. It didn't pick up for me and keep me awake past my bedtime turning pages like Ms. Regan's other books did. I didn't find one character to identify with in this story nor did I find any particularly redeeming qualities in the characters other than maybe, Rivkie. The characters were shallow and wrapped in odd packages. It took until the very end of the book to find the point of the story: money, property and presitge do not guaranty happiness. I do want to say, however, that Ms. Regan was pretty clever in wrapping it all up in the last few pages of the book, which is why I raised the "star quotient" from two to three. I will not stop reading Naomi Regan (I've read all of her books); I just hope that the future will bring another page turner steeped in Judaic ritual and principles.
