Book Reviews of The Saturday WifeBook Review: original, thought-provoking and laugh- out- loud funny- loved it ! Summary: 5 Stars
Naomi Ragen has done it again! The Saturday Wife is the perfect read:original, thought-provoking and laugh- out- loud funny. I loved the descriptions of the characters and what happens to them is just so amazingly realistic. True, it's over the top, but that's what makes it so wonderful. You can just see it all happening this way. I suppose it might be a little difficult for people outside the community to really appreciate just how well she has captured the nuances of this world.
But for those in the know, it is brilliant. I especially loved the ending, which lets the reader punish the anti-heroine as much or as little as they think she deserves.
It's not too often that I can say wholeheartedly, it's the best book I've read in a long, long time.
Book Review: review of "The Saturday Wife" Summary: 4 Stars
Naomi Ragen is one of my favorite authors and having read most of her previous books I can relate to her latest, "The Saturday Wife". On the surface it is a light look at Orthodox Jewery and the very strict restrictions put on the individual. But read seriously--read deeply--and there are current issues to ponder. It is a layered story unraveling the lives of a young couple; he a brand-new Rabbi who thinks he will inherit his grandfather's congregation in New York, she, a beautiful and vivacious new wife who longs for more choices. I think it is a most enjoyable read.
