Book Reviews of The Secret

Book Review: 'Feel good' philosophy
Summary: 3 Stars

The title sums it all. 'The Secret' is revealed in the first few pages of the book and the rest of the book just elaborates on 'The Secret'.

You become what you think so think positively, act positively, entertain positive emotions and curtail negative ones. If you want to live happily, think about being happy, if you want wealth think about it, if you want good health think about being healthy and the list goes on and on....The placebo effect is given utmost importance.

If a storm or a natural calamity kills masses, it's because of their thinking which happened to be negative in some capacity, totally unknown to them - Give me a break!

Abundance is the way to go. The book advocates 'Giving' but undermines 'Sacrifice'. Because, 'Giving' indicates prosperity and abundance and 'Sacrifice' indicates poverty. A tremendous let down to conventional religious patrons.

The book might be helpful if you are in deep distress but fails to impress any sane rational thinker. The author tries to substantiate her holistic approach through some quantum mechanics etc but doesn't do a good a job. If you become what you think and you think positive about yourself and 10 others think negatively about yourself. What happens then? What if 100 or 1000 think negatively about yourself. Are the effects totally and utterly negated against you? If you don't want to think much and just want some 'feel good' philosophy, then this book is for you and you will probably enjoy it.

Book Review: ..power of positive thinking...
Summary: 3 Stars

Everyone needs it. Everyone should do it. Though wishing, believing and then getting it...because you "think it so and have good relations?" well, that is something completely different. So save your money and buy

The Power of Positive Thinking (minature edition) by Norman Vincent Peale

Book Review: 21st-century snake oil
Summary: 1 Stars

Pseudo-spirituality for busy, shallow, self-involved Westerners. Uses the names of famous people who are conveniently dead and thus can't defend themselves (Hugo, Einstein, Newton, Plato etc). Endess filler and reiteration of the sort of gunk that the New Age movement has been spewing forth for decades.

Written by, and for, the sort of lazy people who won't do the real work of self-knowledge and desire quick and easy answers. An easy cash-generating machine for parasitic mediocrities without any genuine talent or gift to offer the world. I have often wished I could lay my ethics aside and come up with a scheme to separate people from their money so easily - but long ago resigned myself to doing something useful that would allow me to sleep with an easy conscience instead.

Advice for people who think this sort of thing will make them feel better about themselves and their lives: stop spending your money on garbage and go sponsor a child in the developing world. You've already got it so good you've lost sight of your fellow human beings.

Nexus: A Neo Novel

Book Review: 5 Ninja Stars
Summary: 5 Stars

This should be a secret ninja scroll and how to manifest your thoughts into reality. Definitely some Ninja Magic but it works. I believe it goes beyond what many people call positive thinking. In Japan there is a force call Ki or the life force. This something science can not explain or measure. I believe this Ki is connected universally to all beings, and throught time and space. The greatest thing I take away from this book, is that as you think you have something it is already yours. As past, present, and future are one. I am a Ninjutsu practioner and this is one teaching founding in the ninja arts.
