Book Reviews of The Secret

Book Review: 75% Gimmick 25% Wisdom
Summary: 2 Stars

This book begins with the very bold claim that its central thesis is a message common to all of the major religions, ancient civilizations and secret societies throughout history. Okay, then, how about some source material to back that up? How about a few footnotes, references, an extensive bibliography perhaps? Nope, not here. What you get instead are a lot of colorful graphic icons and quotes from new age fad authors, corporate motivational speakers and the like; pretty much all of them westerners, and nary a single religious leader, scholar or even archaeologist among them.

Now I'm not saying that the religions of the world don't make any reference to this idea, nor am I saying that there's nothing to the Law of Attraction or Self Hypnosis, Positive Thinking, Creative Visualization, or whatever else you want to call the 'Secret' which has been on bookshelves in one form or another since before my grandmother picked up Norman Vincent Peale. But does this book bring new depth or clarity to the concept? None that I can see. What it seems to bring is a clever marketing angle.

It reminds me of the old cliche about the charlatan who places an ad in the newspaper: 'Send me a dollar and I'll send you the secret to obtaining untold riches!' His marks all receive a postcard that states, 'Do as I do.'

Books of this type always seem to sprinkle in a few quotes by Jesus and Buddha taken out of the context of their respective philosophical systems. This is particularly troublesome when even a rudimentary familiarity with the doctrine of karma raises all kinds of questions about the primacy of the law of attraction. An exploration of such issues would have been interesting, but you won't find it here.

Book Review: 9/11 - Incredible if True
Summary: 1 Stars

Imagine all the negative thoughts generated that day, by every single person who died in the Twin Towers on 9/11. According to this book, every singe man, woman and child who died that day brought it upon themselves by the negative vibrations that they sent out into the world. That would be incredible if true.

Book Review: A "SECRET" everyone should know--
Summary: 5 Stars

The author writes in such a fashion so "it" is easy to remember and also to apply in everyday life; also, an easy reference to use--open to any page and find just what you need. The "secret" strategy for everyday life (once learned) is just a matter of application. We all have the power . . . we just needed to know the art of "how to accomplish" what is already within us!!

Book Review: A 5+
Summary: 5 Stars

The wording in this book at times comes across as "new-agey", but the message is solid. This book cannot be read in a few days, as there is a lot to take in. That said, I would say this book is not one to lend out because you'll never get it back. I have been buying extra copies of this book to pass along to family and friends...Three weeks after reading this, I still think about it everyday and put The Law of Attraction into practice.
This book has changed the way I think and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone.

Book Review: A BIG LIE
Summary: 1 Stars

This book is more fiction than Harry Potter and Star War combined. If you want to know the Truth it's no SECRET and it's FREE. Joh 14:6 Jesus answered him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to the Father except through me. Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.Joh 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
