Book Review: Workmanlike text, engaging illustrations
Summary: 4 Stars
This is a well-produced edition, a straightforward retelling of these old connected tales from The 1,001 Nights, brought to life by Quentin Blake's characteristically intricate yet free illustrations.
I would have given it ***** had the Arab background featured a bit more prominently, and also had there been an attempt to locate this story sequence within the Scherezade "wrapping", which I think always gives a greater sense of depth to all of the stories when they are, as here, published on their own.
