Book Reviews of The ShopkeeperBook Review: A Hero Even a Woman Can Love Summary: 5 Stars
The literary community is constantly lamenting that the general population doesn't read enough. The top-of-the-pile business executive rarely if ever reads fiction. Jim Best, a former C-level executive at a Fortune 500 company has authored a book of fiction you will thank yourself for reading.
Western literature typically presents the reader with a choice of one of two kinds of hero - someone like Achilles, the blunt, brave warrior incapable of guile or Odysseus in the Odyssey - someone who is crafty and clever. The protagonist in The Shopkeeper blends the best of both.
Book Review: A Wonderful Gift! Summary: 5 Stars
I chose this book because of the reviews as a gift for an avid Western reader who doesn't troll online or frequent bookstores because of an illness. He received this wonderful gift last Wednesday and finished it on his second day LOVING IT and wanting another "Steve Dancy" book NOW. He'll have to wait for Christmas it appears but thank you James D. Best for a fabulous new character and wonderfully written book from someone who loves his (quality) Westerns. You have brightened someone's days who needed some brightening! His daughter is jealous that SHE didn't give it to him. So, well done Mr. Best... Keep writing!!
Book Review: A great escape! Summary: 4 Stars
My daughter gave me this book for my birthday and though I don't normally read westerns, I really enjoyed this one. The characters were fleshed out and the story a nice escape. Recommended!
Book Review: A great find! Summary: 4 Stars
I love historical fiction and every time I searched Amazon, The Shopkeeper was listed as a top choice. I dismissed the choice several times as I preferred to read about topics from the medieval time period; however, I recently was out of handy options so I decided to take a chance and I picked up The Shopkeeper.
I am very glad I did. It is a quick read with a great story. The action is fast-paced and well written. I fell in love with the main character, Steve Dancy and immediately had to find Leadville.
Pickup the book - even if you aren't a fan of the Western genre. The story is worth it.
Book Review: A great western adventure! Summary: 5 Stars
This captivating story is hard to put down. The bad guys are very mean, nasty, and powerful and the good guy is out of his element. The unpredictable plot and the intriguing characters kept me riveted until the last page.
