Book Reviews of The SilmarillionBook Review: It answers every questions you have about the Tolken world Summary: 5 StarsThe Silmarillion tells you exactly how the world was made in a very intertaining fasion (and may even be found appealing to ten year old children!)
Book Review: Tolkien products moves from strength to strength Summary: 5 StarsJ.R.R. Tolkien wrote this as a saga, and so the story should to be spoken as well as read. Martin Shaw allows you to close your eyes and a travel to Middle Earth. If you have read book and wish to vist it again from a diffrent angle then this is for you.
Book Review: A beautiful, spiritual, moving work. Summary: 5 StarsThe Silmarillion is my favourite book, overshadowing even the Lord of The Rings. It holds nobility, glory and beauty, mingled with heartbreaking sorrow and tragedy. The Silmarillion proper chronicles the History of the Silmarils, the holy jewels of Light created by Feanor. It explains the truths behind the legends of great names like Galadriel, Earendil and Luthien, while adding relatively unknown heroes such as Turin, Maedhros, Fingon, Thingol and Turgon. It is largely concerned with the history of the exiled Noldor of the First Age, before the world was changed and Beleriand destroyed. Also included are Ainulindale, (The Music of hte Ainur, a creation myth); Valaquenta, (an account of the Valar); Akallabeth, (The Downfall of Numenor); and Of The Rings Of Power, explaining the origins of the rings and telling something of Celebrimbor, son of Celegorm and crafter of the Three Elven Rings. Not only is this book an outstanding solo work but it will add a whole new dimension to The Lord of the Rings. It also opens the understanding of epic poems like The Lay of Lethian and Narn i Hin Hurin, (History of Middle Earth III). I would recommend it to anyone.
Book Review: Only for die-hard fans Summary: 1 StarsAfter enjoying the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, I thought that it was time to read The Silmarillion. However after failing to get past Chapter 2 after three attempts, I have given up. The book reads exactly the same as Genesis in the Bible but with Elven names. If you are a die hard fan buy it, how-ever if you are looking for an easy read on vacation, forget it.
Book Review: Magnificent book Summary: 5 StarsSilmarillion is one of my most favourite books. Sometimes I'm not sure if I love more Silmarillion or Lord of the Rings. The stories in Silmarillion are noble and tragic, the heroes are much more complicated than those in Lord of the Rings. You must love them and regret them (Túrin, Maedhros, Maglor, even Maeglin). The stories of great friendships, great lords and kings, desperate and magnificent deeds, great love and also hate, the battles and long lasting war. This is Silmarillion and that's why I love it.
