Book Reviews of The Silmarillion

Book Review: Fantastic Audio Collection
Summary: 5 Stars

A must for all lovers of Tolkien's writings

Book Review: Fantastic audio book
Summary: 5 Stars

The reader has the perfect, strong tone to read a book like the Silmarillion. His voice invokes the image of an orator standing in front of a crowd on a pedestal, telling tales of a time long past.

As for the Silmarillion itself, it's a fantastic story from beginning to end. If you're a Tolkien fanatic, this audio book will only help to increase your knowledge of those times long ago when Arda was young.

Book Review: For Those Who Want a Literary Masterpiece.
Summary: 5 Stars

LOTR and the Hobbit were fascinating and mind grabbing but the Silmarillion is unique in itself. It is a book for those who crave knowledge of Middle Earth and who want to emerse themselves into it's legends and histories. It is not a book for the feint of heart because it does start out slow, but for a true Tolkien Connoisseur this book is exciting from cover to cover and more majical with each reading. I highly recomend this book.

Book Review: Genesis Reborn
Summary: 5 Stars

It is inconceivable that anyone writing in the 20th century could
imagine the Beginning of the World in language equal to the King
James Bible or the original Hebrew authors, but J.R. R. Tolkien
has done just that. The audio CD by Martin Shaw is magnificent -
profound and moving. Others have written about the content of the Silmarillion... the great battle between Good and Evil; Beauty and Darkness. But something is lost if the poetry is not heard orally. Martin Shaw's version is thrilling, like listening to the CREATION read by the best actors in the land.
Don't miss it.

Book Review: Good listen of a good read
Summary: 5 Stars

Several friends warned me that trying to listen to The Silmarillion while driving could be asking to fall asleep at the wheel. On the contrary, I found Martin Shaw's reading of this classic to be a very pleasant way to experience Tolkien's unabridged work. Shaw has a powerful, engaging voice and since there is very little dialogue in The Silmarillion, he doesn't need to adopt many different personalities in his delivery. Many other reviewers have covered this title from the perspective of its greatness in a literary sense so I won't bother adding to that. But as far as the quality of this audio book edition, I give it full marks.
