Book Reviews of The Sound of Music: The Making of America's Favorite MovieBook Review: Throughly enjoyable, Enjoyably thorough Summary: 5 StarsThe Sound Of Music was the first film I ever saw in a movie theatre (I was four) and it remains one of my all-time favorite movies. This book is everything I could want in a "behind the scenes" look at a classic film. Besides the remembrances of all of the cast members - major and minor, the book is jammed with many beautiful location photos, a number of which come from Portia Nelson's (she played one of the nuns) personal collection. What I found most fascinating was the list of famous young actors who screen-tested for the various children's parts (Mia Farrow as Liesl?!) as well as the director Robert Wise's battles with the studio to get his artistic vision on screen (20th Century Fox wasn't too financially solvent at the time thanks to Liz Taylor's Cleopatra debacle - of course the astounding success of The Sound Of Music changed that). In conclusion, if you love the film, you'll love the book. Get it today!
Book Review: Wonderful! Summary: 5 StarsThis book is so enthralling. I flip through it several times a week. The pictures are wonderful, and even my sister, who teases me because of my love for musicals, looks through it now and then with me. The first few chapters, which are mainly about the rights to the film and Fox studios, didn't hold my attention, but once I got to the actual casting, making of the movie, and premiere, I couldn't put it down! This book is great for any SOM fan like me.
Book Review: EXCELLENT! Summary: 5 StarsThis is a wonderful book that tells EVERYTHING about The Sound of Music--from the real von Trapps to the actors' lives after the movie. There are SO MANY PICTURES. There are two sections of beautiful color pictures, and MANY MANY black and white ones throughout the entire book! It even has their shedule for when they shot the movie. This is a fabulous book--very interesting to read! I wish there were more like it. It is a MUST BUY for any Sound of Music fan!!!
Book Review: Alexa Summary: 5 StarsI love this book! I was at the Von Trapp lodge in Vermont when I bought this book. I have been a Sound of Music fan since I was 6 (I am 13) and finding this book was a dream come true. It gives a miniture biography about some of the actors and has TONS of pictures. And it tells so much about were the movie was made and what the actors thought about it and so much more. If you like the movie as much as I do, you have to buy this book!
