Book Reviews of The Story About PingBook Review: A profound life-lesson wrapped inside an entertaining story Summary: 5 Stars
Ping, the duckling who was late for the boatride home, discovers that accepting the consequences for his actions is better than being an outcast. An important life-lesson is wrapped up inside an entertaining story for young children. While the theme and presentation might not be considered "contemporary" in today's touchy-feely society, the message remains profound and eternal.
Book Review: 5 Stars
This story is an amazing read for adults as well as children. I don't know about the comparisons to operating systems - *that* is a little far-fetched. Besides everything in life will provide a simile for operating systems - if you close your eyes and click your heels together three times. Which I often do when windows crashes. Works every time! Anyway, this was an enjoyable children's story.
Book Review: An adventure tale brings back wonderful childhood memories Summary: 5 Stars
Ping is one of the many wonderful stories I was exposed to growing up watching Captain Kangaroo. Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, Stone Soup, Caps For Sale, The Five Chinese Brothers -- these great books along with Ping really made an impact on me as a child. I not only discovered the magic of storytelling, I also learned the nearly-lost art of listening. Ping is one of those adventures you can really lose yourself in, as you imagine sailing on the Wide-Eyed Boat down the Yangtse River. I sat in rapt attention, knowing Ping had to decide whether to arrive late and take his spank, or let the boat go and face enormous uncertainty. Every parent owes it to their child to share storytime with terrific tales like Ping. Not only is it a great bonding opportunity, but it creates memories that will last a lifetime.
Book Review: Blast from the Past!! Summary: 5 Stars
I remember reading this story over and over at my grandmother's home when I was a little girl. I was so thrilled that I could share this story with my own two little girls! They thought it was neat to see what "Mommy" liked when she was their ages!
Book Review: Boat Trip on the Yangtze River Summary: 5 Stars
I have not read this book since I was in the first grade and I am now 42, however it left a lasting impression on me. Lasting enough for me to travel to China for 3 weeks to see the Yangtze River and see men walking their birds in the park in bamboo cages! I think that it would provide mystery for young readers and encourage them to find out what is going on in other countries and with other cultures. I would highly recommend it!
