Book Review: Great book, but it is a toddler BOARD book

Somehow I managed to purchase this book without realizing it was a board book. I know, that took some real skill in wishful thinking - I dearly wanted age appropriate books for my kids about Ulysses S. Grant, so I turned a blind eye to every indication on this Amazon page that it was a board book. I mean really, who would imagine that Ulysses S. Grant would be the subject of a toddler board book?
However, I was quite pleased with this book after I got over my initial shock. It is very well done and can still be of use to older children. Each page contains one or two simplified facts about his life, with a colorful illustration. By the time my 3rd grade daughter finished the book, she had all of the basic details of Grant's life and accomplishments down, from his childhood, to his time at West Point, his time in the army, as a general in the Civil War, as the president, and finally, as an author.
After she had gained familiarity with Grant, in a very painless way I might add, she was much more interested in and able to absorb the information in the other more age appropriate book I bought, "Getting to Know U.S. Presidents: Ulysses S. Grant". This book rounded out the picture of Grant in a detailed but humorous way.
All in all, pleased with this purchase.
