Book Reviews of The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Collector's Edition (Offered Exclusively by Amazon)Book Review: Beedle Bard. Its Not HARRY POTTER Summary: 3 Starsnot very happy probably my fault. I am Harry Potters number one fan. I expected something the same, or at least as good. na no nine nope.
Book Review: Wizard Fairytales Summary: 4 StarsFor those going through withdrawals from Harry Potter, J. K. Rowling offers this book. It's a collection of 5 fairytales from the wizarding world. It's a short book, but it is fun.
Beedle the Bard's tales are as familiar to young wizards and witches as the Brothers Grimm's stories are to us. And I can see why. They have the elements of the classic fairytales we all know. There's the story of the man whose magic cauldron begins to torment him when he refuses to help others. Three witches and a Muggle have to work together to reach a fountain that will give one of them good luck. In the funniest story, a king bans wizards and witches while trying to get their power for himself.
And there's the story we already know from the final Harry Potter book. Frankly, there is nothing new about the story of the three brothers who face Death and receive "gifts" for cheating him.
The final story is the darkest involving a character removing hearts and two deaths. Of course, if you read the originals of some of the fairytales, you'll see how dark they can be as well. Still, parents might want to read that one before their kids.
Each story is accompanied by commentary by Dumbledore. These provide an insight into wizard history and some comedy as well.
The biggest problem with the book is its size. It's barely over 100 pages. The large print makes it seem even shorter. And a reference to a tale not included is just cruel.
On the whole, this is a fun book Harry Potter fans will enjoy having in their collection.
Book Review: No Regrets Summary: 5 StarsI have bought this book for my daughter as a christmas present and although I haven't read it (I've just had a little peek) I know my daughter will treasure it.
The presentation is superb and well worth the money so I have no regrets buying this wonderful book.
Well done Amazon!
Book Review: "Pay me the proof of your pain. Pay me the fruit of your labours. Pay me the treasure of your past". Summary: 4 StarsSo, at last, here it is. After all the excitement and hype, and after HP fans are feeling withdrawal symptoms, here is the small edition of wizarding fables along with commentary by Dumbledore himself. So, of course, the question is, do they succeed in living upto expectation? Well, yes.
There are 5 short stories and each story has a short commentary by Dumbledore. Personally, I think that the best of the stories are "The Fountain of Fair Fortune" and "The Warlock's Hairy Heart". The latter of these is actually quite a dark story, reminiscent of Grimm's style of fairytale. Yet, despite its darkness, this ability to create such an atmosphere in such a short story really does attest to Rowling's writing skill. Shorter stories are always more difficult, as you do not have the time and space to develop characters, plot, emotions etc, so the fact that she manages this proves her worth.
If I was to have one criticism of this book, however, it would be that I would have liked more! At just over 100 pages long, it was over far too quickly.
Book Review: Very Good Value Summary: 5 StarsI am extremely pleased with my book and think it is really good value for money especially as it is also raising money for charity.
It looks fabulous with its archaic leather looking box, with deeply embosssed pattern and wording and opened up it reveals a scrumptious velvety bag inside a recess with a lovely embroidered signiature emblazoned on it and inside that the really amazing book encrusted with metal fastenings.
What can I say!
I will treasure it!
