Book Review: Seeking More Light

There is much to glean from reading this book, especially Chopra's commentary on the inerrancy of many questionable Biblical scriptures. From the standpoint of one who reads the Bible both critically and for Spiritual truth, I was not offended; however, for those who make a God of scriptural innerancy, I understand their intense displeasure and the need to refute.
Chopra speaks of the "third Jesus" as mythical (as opposed to the historical and the institutional), and it is here that I believe he has missed the true essence of Jesus, the Christ, the only "begotten" of the Father. In the 22nd chapter of the Gospel according to Matthew Jesus poses the question to the Pharisees: "What do you say of the Christ? Whose Son is He?" When the Pharisees answered "The son of David," Jesus then posed the question that stumped the Pharisees (the most learned priests) and which they could not answer: "How is it then that David, inspired by the Spirit, calls him Lord? If David thus calls him Lord, how is he his son?"
How one answers this question is essential to understanding the Christ and Jesus being "the Christ." Chopra deals with this only cursorily even though his title implies more.
The Christ is the only BEGOTTEN of the Father which indwells everyman awaiting birth - the second birth, the birth of the Spirit (as contrasted with our first physical birth) which Jesus refers to when talking with Nicodemus. Jesus is the FIRSTborn of the Father but it is our spiritual heritage and destiny to EACH be born of the Father, to birth the Christ in ourselves. This is quite a mind-blowing concept and one that is finally being discovered by many spiritual seekers today despite the obfuscation of the institutional church. It also helps to further explain Colossians 1:27 where Paul talks about the "mystery" made known to them which is "Christ in you your hope of glory."
The Pharisees could not accept Jesus as God's annointed Christ because they had not the "eyes to see" - the spiritual sight one is gifted with when spiritual understanding opens. They were too tied to their sacred books, Priestly roles and outward rituals. Hence Jesus' most condemnatory remarks were reserved for those who were supposed to open the Kingdom of Heaven but were keeping it closed.
As to the political commentary on societal issues Chopra engages in in the concluding chapter, I will leave that to each to discern for we are all seeking understanding and we must each be convinced in our own minds and hearts as to what path is most Christ-like.
