Book Reviews of The Thorn BirdsBook Review: Excellent! Summary: 5 Stars
I am at a loss for words regarding this book. I loved it, it was a tapestry of plots and emotions. The characters are rich with emotion, you can identify their wants and needs. Buy youself a box of tissues before reading this book.
Book Review: Excellent, up to a point Summary: 4 Stars
The novel starts out fascinating, and I could hardly put it down as I was drawn into the Cleary family's life. I felt it really lost steam in the last third of the book as Justine was not a strong or interesting enough character to carry the story. The author also includes a grossly stereotypical and inaccurate portrait of a lesbian couple later on in the book. She sure lost credibility in my eyes for that.
Book Review: For the most part very exciting..... Summary: 5 Stars
This book was very much a page-turner. I read in it any chance I got, but McCullough collaborates quite a few fairly boring parts with a some very romantic passages. I found myself forgetting a couple important details because they were incorporated within sluggish portions of the novel. It does not flow as well as the end, for it jumps around between characters too much. All in all, though, it was a book worth reading.
Book Review: Great Book-- T.V. Series (although good) doesn't give it justice Summary: 5 Stars
This book is a raw, compelling and oftentimes tragic portrayl of generations of flawed people. I read from another review that the desciptions of Australia dragged on..but they were some of my favorite parts! Colleen McCullough paints a beautiful picture in the reader's mind. I really love this book, but there are some rough patches. The characters seem real in all of weaknesses and, because the books spans such a long period of time, you can see their mistakes resonate within future generations and in the end comes redemption. You feel like you are there! I just can't praise this literary marvel enough!
Book Review: I can't really decide if I like it or not... Summary: 3 Stars
I loved the attention to detail, but it got grueling sometimes. I felt sometimes that the author was skimping on the characters themselves, but it was a great story. I was never quite sure whether or not I even liked the majority of the characters until the end of the book. This has really made me asses about what my feelings on love and God are.
