Book Review: A new admiration for Patrick Swayze....
Summary: 5 Stars

I enjoyed reading Patrick Swayze's book very much.
I have a new admiration for him.
I have always been a fan...but never realized what a talented man he really was.
I wish I knew all this about him while he was alive.
I would've been a greater fan.
Only the good die young.....a huge loss.
I recomend this book for any fan.

Book Review: A very honest look at Patrick's life--the good and the bad
Summary: 3 Stars

I have adored Patrick Swayze as an actor and admired his long marriage to Lisa for many years, so I was excited to read their book. I still adore Patrick and I recommend this book to anyone who loved him as I did. However, don't expect a rosy story or professional writing...and expect to learn things that may surprise you.

Positives:

It was a very quick read.

It sounds like Patrick is telling you his story over coffee...very intimate & natural.

It contains many pictures of Patrick & Lisa's life, career and family.

Negatives:

I found out things about Patrick and about Patrick & Lisa's marriage that I would have preferred not knowing. It has colored my view of Patrick as a person. Is that fair? Perhaps not--no one is perfect--but it is what it is.

While the book does move through Patrick's career & life in sequential order on the whole, I found it rather disjointed and confusing at times.

The writing is mediocre at best, which is pretty much to be expected of a celebrity memoir that was actually written by the celeb vs. a professional writer.

Book Review: A wonderful story
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved Patrick Swayze before I read this book. Now I not only love him more, I love Lisa too! I have such a deep respect for both of them. This is an easy book to read and I couldn't put it down! It wasn't a "feel sorry for me" book, it told about his whole life and the trials and tribulations that the two of them went through together. My heart breaks when I think of Lisa being alone now because she has lost her soul mate. They loved each other so much and I never realized what a big part that she played in his career while putting her career on the back burner. I especially respected the way that she refused to get parts that she wanted because she was Patrick Swayze's wife. She could have, but she didn't. Patrick escaped death several times in his life and lived in constant pain since he was young. He taught himself to beat the pain and continue to be the best! I especially liked the little behind the scene stories that he talked about. I highly recommend this book and know that you won't be disappointed!

Book Review: Always a die hard fan!
Summary: 5 Stars

I couldn't count the number of times I watched Dirty Dancing since I was maybe 10 years old when it came out. I thank and admire Patrick and Lisa for writing this beautiful book for all of us who loved them. This book will be treasured by all their fans and loved ones.

Other books that I especially feel close to and will treasure always....The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (Random House Reader's Circle), 90 Minutes in Heaven: A True Story of Death & Life, The Shack, and EXPLOSION IN PARIS.

Book Review: An Inspiring and Brave Autobiography
Summary: 5 Stars

I've always loved Patrick Swayze and his work, loved his passion for life, and loved his absolute dedication to the people closest to him. To me, he was a wonderful, surprising man of conviction in an industry that often lack such qualities.

Having said that, and knowing some of his background already, I was so touched to learn more about his life. In his autobiography, The Time of My Life, Patrick Swayze reveals many of what he felt were vulnerable aspect of his character, and the insecurities he had. I was moved to hear about his vulnerable moments, to hear how he faced them, and even how he overcame the problems he developed with alcohol as he dealt with his pain. To me, Patrick Swayze's life is a real testament to the ups and downs of any person's life, and how we can approach them.

As I knew heading into his life story, I also knew that the book was completed shortly before his death in September of last year. Patrick Swayze's battle with pancreatic cancer was known from the beginning, and seems to float over the book as you read, making you think, "Just give it all you've got!" From this, I mean that I kept thinking that had he known, how would he have changed things? I think we all would just say to ourselves, to dig deep and give life all you have.

It seemed to me, that in the end, Patrick Swayze honored his own life and what he had accomplished through the way he battled cancer. Cancer will never define him, but strangely shed a light on all the good he had done, and reminded us all of how important it is to reach for happiness each and every day.

In synopsis, I highly recommend The Time of My Life. Listen, I'm the first person to run from stories of cancer or dogs (you know...because they always die!), but this autobiography was really moving. Like any human story, it reminded me how precious life is, and even how precious we are as individuals. The walk-away message of this book is varied, and I can say that I have thought about many different aspects of my own life since reading his autobiography. All I can say is, that as a fan, but more as a fellow human being, his life touched mine for good.
