Book Review: The Tomb -- Unexpected Horror and Hero
Summary: 5 Stars

The Tomb introduces F. Paul Wilson's hero, Repairman Jack, who is so unusual for a hero I will leave you to discover him for yourself. I LOVE Repairman Jack, and have since bought every book in the Adversary Cycle just so I can continue hearing about him and his adventures. The horror in this book was almost a surprise, because I had been so caught up in the character of the hero.

Book Review: Wow, what a great hero!
Summary: 4 Stars

When I first heard about repairman Jack I thought, what an odd concept. Who is his partner I thought to myself, Larry the Cable Guy? It just sounded so odd, but F. Paul Wilson has created a wonderful protaginist. I cannot believe that there is not a billion dollar film franchise starring this character. I guess after Michael Mann directed his only awful film from a Wilson novel, that Wilson developed a bad taste in his mouth concerning film adaptations of his work. Whatever the reason I'd sure love to see the rakosh on film. Wilson takes a hindi folk tale monster and makes it his own. At first when the creatures were introduced I thought the novel might be silly, but I was so wrong. It was a thrilling page turner. We also learn the origin of Repairman Jack and it is so well presented. I loved "The Tomb" , and I look forward to reading all his novels. My wife just finished "All the Rage" and said that it is even better than "The Tomb".

Book Review: The Tomb is Terrific!
Summary: 5 Stars

Now being the 50th reviewers here, my wife and I have heard of this series for awhile now, but had never gotten the chance to try one out.

Until now!

Wow! What a terrific treat in a reading thrill ride reading experience. This was much better than we had hoped for. My wife loved Jack the Repairman's character, and I loved the supernatural aspects of the storyline, from magic necklaces to keep one young, to creatures called Rikoshi that were sleek and deadly.

Repairman Jack is truly unique. We have already bought the next 5 novels to read. And will review them all in good time. What a great way to start off the new year - finding a new and exciting author! This would make a huge hit at the Box Office if Hollywood would take notice and make this right.

The other great and unique things to this fantastic tale is not only the writing and the uniqueness of its core central character, Repairman Jack, but also the love interests and how he handles all of these. Along with a girl child that holds Jack's heartstrings. All solid good stuff here!

The overall storyline was excellent. All of the intergral characters - both good and evil - were showcased to be truly original and believable. And all so very interesting. Great twists and turns to the very end.

This is one fine balanced tale, full of action and adventure, and underscored with growing characterization throughout and a private detective/hitman-like angle that is sure to please.

F. Paul Wilson has a new fan. See you in the funny papers...

Book Review: Introducing Repairman Jack
Summary: 4 Stars

There are few series characters in horror, probably because it removes a sense of menace. When you read a Repairman Jack story by F. Paul Wilson, you can feel somewhat assured that the hero will survive; after all, how could he otherwise appear in the next book (barring him being a literary equivalent to South Park's Kenny)? Maybe it's safer to just call these stories dark fantasy or adventure, even though they have horror elements. Whatever the genre, these novels work well.

The Tomb is the first novel featuring Jack. Jack is no ordinary repairman, but instead corrects injustices. His ways of fixing these situations are not always aboveboard; as a result, he lives an existence with no established identity. Bordering on paranoia, he is constantly in hiding, even when he is in plain sight. His "career" has alienated him both from his family and (as the story begins) his girlfriend, Gia.

Despite their estrangement, Gia calls him when one of her aunts-by-former-marriage disappears. The police have offered no real help, and Jack is not sure what he can do. Jack is also hired by an Indian named Kasum to retrieve a necklace that was stolen from his dying grandmother; Jack does so, earning Kasum's gratitude and eventually the interests of his beautiful sister, Kolabati. Kasum, however, also has a sinister agenda that is linked to Gia's aunt. The crimes he commits are done using some vicious demons known as Rakoshi. For Jack, this will be his real introduction to the supernatural and it could be a fatal one, if not for him, then for those he holds dear.

The title of the book is a misnomer, as there is no tomb involved with the story. Also, the new paperback is obviously an updated version of the original story that came out in 1984, as this volume contains references to "modern" items such as DVD players. These facts should not diminish your enjoyment of the story. While not perfect, Wilson's good writing and interesting characters do give this book a high four stars.

Book Review: The Reluctant Hero
Summary: 5 Stars

Not only does The Tomb feature a suspense-filled story, overflowing with deadly creatures that could easily have come from Lovecraft's imagination, but it features one of the best characters to emerge from a work of fiction.

Repairman Jack: the most ordinary hero you will ever meet.

This a great book that uses New York City as a backdrop for an old world evil reborn. F. Paul Wilson does a fantastic job of describing the world of Repairman Jack - from his cluttered apartment to the dark streets of New York and beyond - always bringing the reader along for the experience. There wasn't a chapter where I felt lost or bored.

This is a captivating tale, to say the least, and a wonderful beginning to an action-packed and fun series.
