Book Review: Quick, inspiring and healthy lunches

This book is primarily written to help parents pack a healthy and interesting lunchbox for their children - however it is just as useful when attempting to get away from boring old work sandwiches every day at your desk.
The book itself is split into sections: Nibbles & Dips; Soups; Sandwiches & Wraps; Salads, Savouries and Sweet Treats & Bakes. In each chapter there are many interesting and delicious recipes and most are quick and easy to prepare. I was plesantly surprised that the sweets section contained things that sounded both delicious and healthy! Even if the actual recipes don't tempt you - it gives you enough inspiration to tweak them and make them your own.
A fantastic feature of each recipe is that it clearly shows the time taken to prepare and cook each item, how long you can store the item, whether it can be frozen and the health benefits. There is also a handy key which tells you if a recipe is vegetarian, gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free, contains eggs or contains nuts making it ideal if you (or your child) has an allergy.
The introduction and text of the book are informative without preaching and it isn't too long or boring. There is information on what a healthy lunchbox should contain, tips for shopping and some sample menu plans.
My only complaint would be that there are few pictures to show what the recipes should look like. It's not essential as the book is very colourful and easy to read - but it would have been nice to have more images.
It's also quite nice that this book comes spiral bound. It means it easily stays open while you cook and is very easy to flick between pages.
If you're looking to give your kids something other than ham sandwiches for lunch or even if you want your own lunch to be a little bit more exciting and healthy - then this book is definitely a good start. And for the price you really can't go wrong. 4 stars.
