Book Reviews of The Twilight Collection (Twilight)

Book Review: The Twilight Collection
Summary: 4 Stars

The action picks up once you get past the first book. The fact that the anti-hero was irresistible was over-done in Twilight, but the others move along at a good pace. The series is loaded with teenage angst and longing combined with a great story line. Nice work!

Book Review: Great series purchase!
Summary: 5 Stars

I absolutely loved this series. A girlfriend let me borrow the first book and I could not wait to borrow the second one so I ordered the whole set. Hooks you from the first page in book one to the last in book three and left me on edge until the fourth one comes out. To get more of a fix once you finish go to the website for the author. ***warning*** There are spoilers on the webpage so wait until all three are read.

Book Review: A one book story spread over 3+ books
Summary: 3 Stars

First, I have to confess that despite all the complaining I'm about to do, I read all three books one after the other, in three days. This series is nothing if not readable and fun. And the author sure knows how to string out a cliffhanger. Perhaps too well, as you'll read later in my review. My complaint with the books is probably more with whoever edited them than with the author. The books could each be cut down by 50% and you would miss nothing! They are the ultimate teen romance novels in which a self proclaimed unworthy girl has many boys fighting over her, she picks her champion who then defends her to the death, (against all comers including parental figures, monsters and love rivals), and revolves around the all too common love at first sight that will last forever and beyond time theme. (Do we really need that crazy and unrealistic idea hammered some more, especially at a teen audience?) Bella and Edward spend a lot of time staring at each other with jaws clenched, or staring at each other breathless. You read these descriptions at least 500 times over the period of the three books. We get it already. Harry Potter deserved a seven book series. He was well written. The meager ribbon of plot and character development that goes through these three books is stretched thhiiiinnnn because there was really only ever enough of it to fill one book, not four. I was very annoyed (SPOILER ALERT) to get to the end of book three for crying out loud, still wondering if Bella was actually going to be stupid enough to turn herself into a vampire. Three books and we're still not there yet? Bella's big motivator in that is she doesn't want to be OLD? An excellent reason really hinting at what a great character she is. (not!) And even after she decides she IS marrying Edward, we don't get to the wedding at the end of book three? Jacob runs off into the woods, maybe forever? Lame, lame, lame. (END SPOILERS) A good series, like the aforementioned Harry Potter, will tie up each book so that the reader is left satisfied with the final conclusion, even though there may be more to follow. The author is so busy making us hungry for the next book that she never really ties up the one she's writing, it's just a big tease for the next in the series. Nothing was satisfyingly tied up, in my opinion. I"m waiting on one more book to find out what happens to characters I just invested three days in. I think I deserve a little more conclusion than the author doled out. If you haven't started the series, I wouldn't start till the fourth book is finished. Otherwise you'll end up waiting for the fourth book to get all the pieces put together. And if the author (or her editor) has any decency she'll stop stretching the plot and tie up the series with number four. Conclusion: fun read, yes, satisfying read, no.

Book Review: Perfect just like the books themselves
