I'll confess that I wasn't thrilled with Bella, and was discouraged to see how much the first book sounds like an adult hooked on Jane Austen (speech is unrealistically "old") and how obvious the second is based on Romeo and Juliet. However I found myself drawn to reading the series and got hooked on the love interest and their families (Edward and Jacob). I bought the three book set when I saw that my oldest daughter and her friends were fighting over the last available copy in the school library. These books are very long (the third one is more than 600 pages)- but I gave the first book to my 12-year old - who hates to read. She was hooked and rather than have to force her read a few pages a day, she was reading at the rate of one book a week. The books went everywhere with her. She's now finished the third book and although she agrees with me that Bella is a bit self-centered, she's finished all three books and has already posted on the author's website that she'd dying to see the next installment. The only other book that's done that for her is the Artemis Fowl series.
Anything that can make a kid WANT to read voluntarily is wonderful. So we'll be buying book four when it's out.

I generally don't like vampire books but I really loved these books -- I read all of them and then READ ALL OF THEM AGAIN IMMEDIATELY!!! I'm very much looking forward to the next book in the series. I also look forward to the movie(s) and hope they keep true to these very awesome book(s).
Stephanie Meyer is now one of my favorite authors. Keep up the good work Stephanie and I'll buy everything you write.
