Book Review: About the Movie

While I am posting this review on a webpage selling the book, it is in fact a review of the movie version of Eclipse. Having read the books, except for the fourth, as well as seen the first two movies, I can say that they are getting better at making the Twilight saga into movies. Aside from dialing down Bella's resistance to the idea of matrimony, and necessary compression, this movie followed the book much better than the others, especially the first one. I am still not entirely pleased with the depiction of the high-speed vampire fights, which blurs things, but otherwise, Eclipse was nicely done, especially the flashbacks showing the pasts of a few Cullen vampires.
For people watching the movies without reading the books, I can say that Eclipse has less angst than New Moon, and much more by way of action scenes than either of the first two. Also, the Edward vs. Jacob rivalry is quite a bit higher in this movie, both in terms of random shouting from the theater audience, and on-screen tension between the characters. It has been somewhere around two weeks since Eclipse came out, and there was still quite a bit of enthusiasm from the audience at the theater I attended.
That being said, I am not entirely sure those who have not seen any of the other movies or read the books would want to see this movie, as it assumes quite a bit of background information to understand. Also, for unknown reasons, there is a different actress playing Victoria, so she is mostly identified by her unnaturally blazing red hair. Eclipse is also generally a bit darker than the other movies, especially with its opening scene, where a guy is attacked by a vampire even before the opening credits began. I almost did not realize this was a part of the movie, actually. Finally, among the aspects of the book skipped in the movie are mentions of the backgrounds of Alice and Emmett Cullens, though I suppose they might not have made for good flashback material.
