Book Review: The Resurgence Of Ralph Albert Blakelock
Summary: 5 Stars
His art was popular in the late 1800's and early 1900's perhaps aided by his subsequent journey into madness. He was heavily counterfeited and there are many fake Blakelocks hanging on walls to this date. He was noted for his Western paintings which featured moonlight scenes and Native encampments. My favorite is Teepees In The Moonlight. His art has had a recent resurgence as evidenced by an increased number of published books. Here is one which is a valuable addition in that it concentrates on the fact that Blakelock was not content to dwell with one technique or another and was able to forge ahead and assimilate more modern techniques, developing a unique style. A very valuable addition for lovers of Blakelock paintings.The book features many examples of his work and is highly recommended.
