Book Reviews of The Vaccine Book: Making the Right Decision for Your Child (Sears Parenting Library)

Book Review: Great reference book, easy to read and understand
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this book at the library and liked it so much that I bought my own copy. It will be a useful reference book to have in the future. It is easy to read and understand, and tells both sides of the vaccine debate in a calm and unbiased way. For example, for each vaccine it explains the benefits of getting the vaccine, but then also provides reasons why some parents chose not to get it.
I highly recommend it if you, like me, are concerned about vaccinations for your child, but are confused or overwhelmed by all of the conflicing information out there.
I partiularly appreciate that, on a topic that people on both sides feel very passionately about, this book explains both sides in a calm and dispassionate way.

Book Review: Great informational book; quick shipment
Summary: 5 Stars

I originally checked this book out at the library but felt I needed to own this one. It is a great directory of how each vaccine is made and how it may affect your child. Dr. Sears is not anti-vaccine, he is simply stating the affects it may have on your child. We use the book to become educated on each individual vaccine so we can talk with the pediatrician more knowledgeably.

Book Review: Great book -- really helped us make an informed decision
Summary: 5 Stars

This is probably the most "balanced" book on vaccines available. Dr. Sears is definitely not anti-vaccine, yet he also confirms that not all of the fears surrounding vaccines are unfounded. The book address each vaccine/disease in detail, including a full list of ingredients and their possible side effects, how serious the disease is and whether/how it's treatable, and reasons for and against getting the vaccine. He offers his professional opinion on the importance of each vaccine and whether benefits outweigh risks (and vice versa). He also addresses common concerns regarding aluminum in vaccines, vaccine safety testing, etc. The book is easy to read, sometimes witty, and very well organized so that you can find the specific information you want easily. Above all, Sears makes it clear that his goal is to educate, not persuade. He lays out the facts as he sees them and allows the reader to make his/her own judgments. While Sears's book is not my only source of information, it is one of the most useful.

Book Review: great book
Summary: 4 Stars

I haven't had much time to read the book yet, but from what I have looked at so far, it seems very good with lots of helpful, non biased information.

Book Review: What a wonderful book...
Summary: 5 Stars

Dr. Sears' book is a great book for any parent who is concerned in any respect about vaccines or just has questions about them. He goes into detail about each of the 30+ shots your child is scheduled to receive as a newborn/toddler.

He also addresses the autism/MMR controversy, the thimerosal/mercury issues, and addresses aluminum in vaccines (something our Ped didn't even know, when we asked her "How much aluminum is in these shots?") and recommends caution given that no one has studied the effects of injected aluminum into infants.

He includes 2 "alternative" vaccine schedules for any parent concerned. He also takes Ped MD's to task for kicking patients out of their practices (like ours did) when a parent won't slavishly adhere to the American Academy of Ped's vaccine schedule.

This book was worth every penny we paid. I can't recommend it highly enough.
