Book Review: A magnum opus you will not be able to put down!

Marcia Davenport's 1942 book, "The Valley of Decision" is the story of the Scott family, from 1873 to the events of Pearl Harbour, in 1941. The family are prototypical owners of an iron works in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the saga revolves around a young house maid who falls in love with the son of the local coal mine owner, the Scott's son. Their romance is endangered when her family, all miners, go on strike against his father, the overbearing head of the Scott household. This magnificent magnum opus of a novel, at 788 pages long, took a good week to read but was even better than I remembered the film to be. If you read just one Marcia Davenport novel, then read this one, not only is it her best, but even at 4.30 in the morning, you will still not be able to put it down!
