Book Reviews of The Very Hungry CaterpillarBook Review: Best Children's Picture Book Summary: 5 StarsI remember this book as a child and it was good fun then counting and naming all the foods and looking through the holes in the pages to see what was coming next. It was a delight to share it with my toddler and to see her delight as we turned the pages and named and counted the different foods. It's a favourite of hers now and we can read it over and over again with the same delight as the first time. A must have for a small children.
Book Review: Pure Brilliance Summary: 5 StarsEvery generation has it's classics -- Shakespeare, Tolstoy, Clarke and now Carle! This gripping tale of a youthful caterpillar's trials to become a butterfly has so many parallels with our own growth, it's incredible. Never before has one man taken something so simple as a leaf being eaten and given it such emotion "but the hungry caterpillar was still hungry". I read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" first when I was just 3 months old; and now, at 43 I am still finding new levels of story within this novella. Buy it, you won't regret it.
Book Review: both my son and I love this book... Summary: 4 StarsThe unusual, bold illustrations, the simple text, as well as the "educational value" (counting, days of the week, etc.) make this one of my favourites. My 21-month old son also loves it... especially sticking his fingers in the holes the caterpillar has left in the food (so do consider the board book if your child's the touchy-feely type!). A book I like to read with my son regularly and one I like giving as a gift to other mommies - it's usually a hit with their babies / toddlers too.
Book Review: This book Summary: 5 StarsI remember reading this as a child and I still rate it as one of the greatest books ever (being 21 now). It has beautiful illustrations that look a bit like crepe paper collages and the story is awesome. He eats pie... He eats watermelon, it gets quite tense near the end because he gets quite fat. I shan't ruin the plot because it's quite an epic.
Book Review: Perfect for sharing again and again Summary: 5 StarsI bought this book before my son was born as it is such a classic and we haven't been disappointed with it. I disagree with the reviewer who says it doesn't work as a board book, it's a lovely book to have as a board book and to let babies play with. My son has loved it from around six months to his current 19 months and we read it nearly every morning when he first wakes up. It's just a lovely enduring book to have in your home.
