Book Reviews of The Virgin SuicidesBook Review: A Twisted Look into 1970's Suburbia Summary: 5 Stars
Eugenides creates an interesting look into a family of young sisters through the eyes of an obsessed boy. The Virgin Suicides is an excellent novel. All of the characters are well developed yet each one seems to have a mysterious quality to them that intrigues the reader. Not only are the characters well developed, but so is Eugenides style. The Virgin Suicides is written in an interesting and relaxed manner. Eugenides allows the reader to get to know each character and he welcomes you into the strange and mysterious world of the the Lisbon girls as well as the obsessive boys who watch their every move. I highly recommend this book to all, it is an intriguing and thought provoking novel that everyone can enjoy.
Book Review: A Wonderful Book Summary: 5 Stars
This book has moved me more than any other book I've read this year. It is beautifully written and a fast and enjoyable read that anyone will enjoy.
Book Review: A Wonderfully Compeling Story Summary: 5 Stars
The Vigin Suicides is a wonderfully compelling story beautifully written by first time novelist Jeffery Eugenides. The story of the five Lisbon sisters and their emerging suicides is told by the unnamed neigbor boys that loved them from a distance. Taking place in an era distictively 70's, yet not completely recognized, only adds to the wonderful mystery of this book. The story is engaging and interestingly told as the boys watch and try to reach out to the Liston girls( apparently unaware of the boy's affections) and then as the boys look back on what could have been the possible motives for the terrible demise of these beautiful girls. The character's are beautifully contrived and complex and have an aura of the mysterious surrounding them, which only makes the book more of a page turner. Adolesence and many of its obsticles are interestingly portrayed to which all readers can realate, along with many feelings distant to many people in in this world
Book Review: A bit of a stretch... Summary: 4 Stars
I have only cried while reading twice in my life - during "A Summer to Die" and during this book. "The Virgin Suicides" is extremely frustrating and depressing to read because the reader can't help but want to reach out and help these girls. I did think the way it's portrayed (from the perspective of all the neighborhood boys) was a bit of a stretch and detracted from the overall story, but it's still a great book.Definitely worth reading!
Book Review: A book you can't put down! Summary: 4 Stars
The book The Virgin Suicides was a decent book. When I first started to read it I just wanted to stop because it went on and on about Cecilia. After the reader gets about half way through the book it starts to get good. Like the kind of book the reader can not put down, the reader just has to keep reading it. The plot to the book was well written and stuck to the same ideas and themes through out the entire book. The part I liked the most would have to be how Eugenides chose to have a variety of differences in it; for example, it has humor, terror, death, and even love. There are not many books like this. A book needs this, it keeps you thinking what is gonna happen next you never know if you have a mixture of these. I would recomend this book to anyone who enjoys any of these differences I have mentioned above. It is a great book as long as you do not give up on it toward the begining half.
