Book Reviews of The Winds of WarBook Review: Fantastic Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the best books I've ever read and an authoritative overview of the opening phases of World War II. Instead of creating superhero protagonists, Wouk's characters are complex and believable. His descriptions of Pug Henry's encounters with FDR, Hitler, and Stalin are priceless and the military analysis is spot-on. The Winds of War represents the number-one achievement in World War II historical fiction.
Book Review: Forget The Review Ratings Summary: 5 Stars
"The Winds of War" is a bona fide 5 STAR book if there ever was one! It is the Gold Standard of historical fiction of World War II.
Some folks decided to trash the book based on an apparently highly flawed Kindle version or some badly mangled used books. These were not literary criticisms and the people probably should have sought an alternative method to register their valid complaints. Diluting the considered comments and thoughtful ratings of (people judging) the substance of the book is not fair to the author or to prospective readers.
This book takes the reader on a sweeping historical journey from events leading up America's involvement in the war. Our protagonist, US Naval Captain Victor "Pug" Henry, has a large adult extended family which is spread out across the globe and this allows Wouk to deal with pre-war Nazi Germany, the blitzkrieg of Poland, the Battle of Britain, Italy, Stalin in Russia and finally Pearl Harbor.
The characters and storyline are so good it leaves you aching for more. And he delivers "more" with the sequel, "War and Remembrance".
For wonderful thought-provoking entertainment and a history lesson all rolled into one, these 2 books are the best you can get!

Book Review: Good entertainment, as long as it's not taken to seriously. Summary: 2 Stars
This book, as well as it's sequel, are good for light, entertaining reading. Definately hard to put down. But it's many examples of ridiculousness border on the absurd, with the main one being expected to believe a person of the status and rank of the main character would have the experiences he does.
Book Review: Great Book Summary: 5 Stars
Herman Wouk does a incredible job of weaving his own characters into the events leading up to Pearl Harbor and America's enterance into World War Two. I also recommend the sequal WAR AND REMEMBRANCE
Book Review: Great Read! Summary: 5 Stars
Great book! I wish I had read it before reading "War and Remembrance". This title fills in a great deal of background character information. Wouk does a fantastic job weaving his characters into real historical events. Being a younger person, I have little knowledge of what daily life might have been like c. 1939. Winds of War, though fiction, paints a picture unlike any history books I have ever read.
