Book Review: A by-the-numbers thriller that didn't thrill.

I read Baldacci's "Absolute Power" and I enjoyed it a lot more than this trite, boring book. I found the story and the characters too implausible. I had no trouble putting the book down at night.Book Review: A different focus for Baldacci but well done!

Those familiar with other works by this author have come to expect FBI intrigue, Secret Service manipulations and government plots abounding. This is a little different tack for Baldacci since the focus of the story only peripherally involves the government (well, until about 2/3 of the way through). The focus of this book is a woman who has the opportunity of a lifetime, to win the rigged fictional National Lottery and get away with it. LuAnn is your heroine and is a wonderfully likable character even if not too realistic (beautiful, smart and physically powerful). The story keeps moving from beginning to end with almost no pause in the pacing of the story. It keeps you interested from beginning to end. That is why I highly recommend this book even if you are not into the government intrigue genre. Enjoy!Book Review: A good read

While it is true that the characters in this book were not developed as well as they could have been, The Winner was still an excellent read that kept me up late at night to see what would happen next. Baldacci seems to be out of the same mould as John Grisham. The story is entertaining although perhaps a bit far-fetched. Nevertheless I enjoyed it and would recomend it to anyone.Book Review: A great "escape" novel, fast-paced and exciting.
