Book Reviews of The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding: Seventh Revised Edition (La Leche League International Book)Book Review: Just Advertising Summary: 1 StarsI wanted advice on breastfeeding, but apparently purchased a 400+ page advertisement for LLL meetings and products, with propaganda thrown in for good measure. "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" offers basic infant advice found in any good parenting/pregnancy book, and from my perspective offered nothing significant either in terms of infant care or breastfeeding advice. The tone of the guide itself was a large detractor for me - as was being told every other page that "x" was available for purchase from LLL, or that "Ms. Y" attended a LLL meeting and everything was just peachy (most often without sharing the advice that seemed to make everything better). Personally, I believe this book is a big waste of time and money - you can find the same information elsewhere without all the additional ads and scare tactics
Book Review: A Must Read for Mom's and Mothers-to-be Summary: 5 StarsBreast is best! This books gives a variety of helps and tips of breastfeeding. It not only goes into detail as to how but it is encouraging for those who struggle to breastfeed. It answers questions like, Am I producing enough milk?, Am I loosing my milk?, Breastfeeing and the working mom, Nursing multiples, False alarms of milk reduction, and a variety of other concerns one my have. I LOVED this book and continue to refer back to it throughout my nursing experience.
Book Review: Excellent Reference for Nursing Mothers Summary: 5 StarsStill as good as it was thirty five years ago when I nursed my first baby. Updated with current information - a must for all new and even not so new nursing mothers. Excellent resource guide, yet easy to read and understand.
Book Review: Do not purchase if you want useful information. Summary: 1 StarsI bought this book to help with breastfeeding questions I had that I felt were unanswered by the information out there. Unfortunately for such a large book this book does not have any more information than I was given with handouts and able to access on the web (well even less info than the web). It is unfortunate that they devote 2 entire chapters to the "CHOICE" of staying home with your baby instead of going back to work. Breastfeeding is difficult enough without a guilt trip on being a bad mom if you need to work. I also find it exceedingly stupid that there is a paragraph devoted to thrush (which my infant has and I wanted information on) and a full 2 pages devoted to a woman who was lost in the wilderness and SAVED her baby since she was breastfeeding. Really this book is only devoted to brainwashing you into breastfeeding, do not get it if you are looking for useful information. If you are looking for good breastfeeding information go to [...] - lots of useful info and links to info.
Book Review: Breastfeeding help or Attachment Parenting? Summary: 2 StarsIf breastfeeding is all you're looking for, don't buy this book. The information given was no more helpful to me than a small pamphlet that I had received from WIC. And the exact same information was repeated 4 or 5 times throughout the book, with no added tips or pointers. Maybe you can skim one or two chapters (the ones that are actually about breastfeeding)at the bookstore to learn all you can, but you won't need the whole thing.
If, however, you want a lesson on attachment parenting... go for it. You'll get all you want.
