Book Reviews of The WoodsBook Review: great read!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first book by Coben. I thought the story was really well thought out, having so many twists, almost a few too many, nonethless I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a good page-turner.
Book Review: lots of twists but very captivating Summary: 5 Stars
Clever writer. Knows how to keep us on our toes and keep our attention. Not sure about his series, have not read those. I hope they are as good as this one and Gone for Good.
Book Review: overstuffed, overwritten, overwrought. Thank God it's over! Summary: 1 Stars
Books like this keep you reading because you want to find out the solution to the mystery. Otherwise the dragged-out scenes and inept writing would have stopped me early on. For one thing, the author seems incapable of describing emotions. He keeps falling back over and over on such breathtaking formulations as "I felt my heart sink in my chest." The novel sprawls all over the place, including everyone from the narrator's grandparents (victims of the KGB!) to his brother-in-law (a thief). There's a court scene and also a dreary romance, which remains unresolved (does that mean a sequel?). But it's the ending, the "solution" to the mystery, that is the worst part of the book, consisting as it does of a series of ridiculous "revelations" that the author simply pulls out of the air. These "revelations" are completely arbitrary and often accompanied by the narrator's assurance that they "make sense." They don't.
