Book Reviews of The WoodsBook Review: A thriller that will give you the chills... Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great book! I couldn't put it down. It was my first Coben novel but it won't be my last. This was the first mystery/thriller that I've read in a while that I didn't have it "all figured out" half way through. Read it and see if your equally surprised.
Book Review: A twisted path through dark family histories Summary: 4 Stars
Coben takes us on a spin! Twenty years ago, Paul Copeland, now a county prosecutor, was 'witness' to a multiple slaying. One of the victims was his sister, although hers was one of the bodies never recovered from the vast dense woods.
Coben writes a taut tale with threads going back generations. Multiple plot lines keep the reader entranced. There are pieces the reader can figure out before the book takes the reader there, but watch out, new evidence keeps appearing.
A good read for a vacation, daily commute or just pure entertainment.
Book Review: Above Average Thriller Summary: 4 Stars
Four teenagers enter the local woods on summer camp. Two are found murdered, and two are never seen again, presumed dead. Twenty years later, County Prosecuter, Paul Copeland, is still haunted by the memories of that fateful night, as one of the missing teenagers was his sister, Camille. Now, evidence comes to light, that perhaps, one of the teenagers, may have survived.
I found this book an enjoyable read, with very believable characters. There is a very interesting modern day court case plot, which intertwines with the main plot of the missing teenagers.
My only gripe is that the last quarter of the book, is not as interesting as the earlier parts. The court case subplot is almost forgotten about, and there are a few twists near the end, that for me, did not work that well. However, that should not put the reader off too much, as the story is very good, overall.
Book Review: Another great read by Coben Summary: 5 Stars
I couldn't wait to finish my day and curl up with this thriller. Another great book by Coben. LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!
Book Review: Another great read by Coben Summary: 4 Stars
I always enjoy Harlan Coben's books. I especially liked this one in part because the main character, Paul Copeland, is so likable and real. He is a strong character, but definitely has a heart. The story is a complex one, but easy enough to follow. Unlike some thrillers, some of the outcome is not easily predictable. At the time that he's exploring the likely death of his sister along with three other teenagers 20 years ago, he's also prosecuting two college students accused of rape. He persists in his prosecution despite strong pressure to offer a generous plea agreement. However, when circumstances involved in the apparent death of his sister come to light, he is forced to see shades of grey in the behavior of many people he cares about. The same is true when his brother-in-law embezzles money from the charity he set up in memory of his deceased wife. The end is ambiguous and you're not certain what will happen. But, I like to think because of Paul's humanness and the strong feelings of the people involved, that it works out in a positive way. I also thinks this tends to be Coben's style - or maybe I just want it to work out well. Anyway, I would definitely recommend this book as a fast and interesting read.
