Book Reviews of The Woods

Book Review: Quite a Ride (Read)
Summary: 5 Stars

The central character is Paul Copeland, a county prosecutor in New Jersey. While in the midst of arguing the prosecution's case at the trial of two wealthy college fraternity brothers accused of rape, he is questioned about the murder of a man in New York City. This man's death appeared to be connected to an incident that happened twenty years earlier at a summer camp attended by the then-teenaged Copeland. It was believed that four youths were murdered one night, deep in the woods, although only two bodies were found. One of the victims was Copeland's sister. Copeland has long been haunted by the events of that night, for, it turns out, he was more than just the brother of a victim.

From this starting point, the novel takes the reader on a roller-coaster ride of plot twists and turns. I'm not a speed reader, but I finished this book in record time (for me) because I was able to race through the extremely well written pages. The only speed bumps were occasional digressions in the form of overlong explanations as the story developed. Also, there were a few false conclusions, something like the amusement park ride that gives you a couple of extra shocks near the end.

But it was an exciting read (ride), well worth the cost of admission.

Book Review: Read this book
Summary: 5 Stars

Read this book..if you haven't read Harlan Coben yet, you are missing out on a great writer, if you are a fan, you need to read this book, now. lol

Book Review: Ridiculous
Summary: 1 Stars

The plot twist/ending for the book is so dumb. It made absolutely no sense why everyone was covering up the truth. Coben, you can do better.

Book Review: Salaciously Surprising
Summary: 4 Stars

The Woods' sub-plotting is deliriously delicious. The Characters are modestly marvelous, the presumptuous ending is salaciously surprising. The story's timeline is calculatingly cunning. I loved this novel for all those reasons...and more.

It's a long and somewhat complicated read, but with undertones of literature and overtones of current fiction, which takes the reader from courtroom combat to mysterious murder sites. And, the intervening love story is superb.

I'm the author of the psychological drama KISSING FREUD, the action adventure DUBROVNIK, and now, the new publication IT'S ALL MAKE BELIEVE, ISN'T IT? *Marilyn Monroe Returns*. You can preview and purchase them here on amazon.com, or on my secure site at www.lulu.com/bencampbell.

Book Review: Shark Infested Waters Lurk Within These Woods!
Summary: 4 Stars

When it comes down to it, Harlan Coben is nothing less than one of the best. With me it gets fun, simply because I tend to find little pet peeves of mine. Yet I keep coming back to Coben eventually, and he keeps getting better. "The Woods" is no exception, because he really gets twisted in this one. And when you think it doesn't get worse, that somehow he's done, Harlan Coben cranks the knife one more twist! And for dealing with "The Woods," Coben seriously drifts into shark infested waters, and is out for blood.

Paul Copeland sure loved his sister, and he still thinks of her twenty years to this day. But that's just the beginning, because he is a widower, and he has a high caliber case. And that's when things start getting weird, and things start going back to the past. And it digs into a family past, one that Paul Copeland now isn't so sure of. But it also means that his sister just might be alive. And things do start to get creepy. The people you thought you trusted become suspects, and the plot only thickens! Simply allow yourself to get lost in these WOODS, and see if it doesn't play with your head. It might.

Coben put together one heck of a page turner. And he didn't peeve me off too bad this time, but he got me wound up a little bit. And that's ok, it just doesn't always impress me to the fullest. But "The Woods" as a whole did convince me to recommend this mystery in the making! If you happen to be a shark, you may be licking your chops. There is blood to be tasted, and it may not leave too much room for dessert! Good work, Mr. Coben!
