I've waded through a lot of big, glossy "Tolkien companion" books, and this is something different. A lot of knowledge of mythology and language has been distilled into a slim book, and the illustrations are a good cross section of the huge amount of art work inspired by Tolkien. I found "Tolkiens Ring" by the same author equally memorable.
